Any ideas when the current Avensis will be replaced? Been looking online and cant seem to find much about the replacement.

Is it not still pretty new? Last one came out in 03 and was around until 09 with a facelift in late 06.

Current one just had its midlife facelift, so Im guessing late 2014?

    ?

Thats the problem, they're all indistinguishable. The car you buy when all you want to do is get to pension age and die. Still it makes sence I suppose. Atleast the smell of piss from its owner will blend in nicely with the plastics. Lifes too short :)

I love the look of the 2012 version but with the obsession with diesel here you cant buy a 1.8 manual in ireland.

Current model, the Mark 3 has just been facelifted, so i'd guess at late 2014 for 2015 market for new one.

Why you interested, Surely it will be 2032 when you will stump up for a 2013/2014 model. Plenty of time to scope one out.

I'd say itll be in 2014. They usually run them for 6 years.

Cant figure how people think an basic mondeo, 3 series or insignia is somehow less boring than an Avensis.

Hows it going the new one is the best looking one so far out of all the models.
Like the way they have the DRLs (day time running lights)
As others have said would probably be a round 2 years before a change last one changed aroun 3 year mark.
Good luck with the new car

I detested the last model. It had absolutely no character. Rotten shapeless yokes. The current model actually has character and presence. Don't know what they're like to drive but they're a nice looking car. Looks roomy too.

I have to laugh when I see Golf, Passat and Mondeo etc. owners slagging the Avensis as bland and boring.

atleast the 3 series has the better wheels driving, aside from that theres not much really.

Oddly enough, I think the Mk2 was the best one they ever produced - the current Mk3 model is brutal though - we have one in the family and I absolutely detest it!

Never liked the mk3 to drive, the gears and clutch just feel wrong, the handbrake is silly and it feels smaller up front than the mk2

Cabin itself is much nicer and the facelift really improves things on the higher specced ones.

Looking At getting a new car in 2014, talking out Of the box new. As I've always liked Toyotas I'm looking at getting one. As my current car passed her test until september 2013. Just wondering if the new model would be out then.

Really !!!! And I hate everything so for me to rate something so lowly says it all. :D

Look its like this, its the type of people who drive them along with the awfulness of the car itself. I know they do a zillion miles and never break and all that jazz. Its this though thats my problem. The cars attitude to existing seems to match its owners expectations of life. Please let nothing go wrong, then you die. Its an awful car, its owners are as grey as Earl himself. Even most Avensis owners dont give a fcuk that they own an Avensis, just so long as it doesnt go wrong. Sorry but that ranks at an 11 out of 10 on my things to not give a flying fiddlers about.

The next generation of Avensis will be fitted with a BMW sourced diesel engine. May or may not be a good thing.

I know, but try and find a "loved" Mondeo (or any mass market car) that is more than 36 months old.

Or even try and find a boggo car with a receipted service history. People treat their cars as they do their washing machines.

This is a car that I may keep until 9 or 14 years old. I want a decent reliable comfy car that I may drive 100k a year. Fair enough i wouldn't go out and buy one for private.

    @corkie, All set man!!

As bazz has already mentioned, the next Avensis will have a BMW diesel engine. Considering that BMW currently is either unable to or doesn't bother making timing chains properly, I wouldn't be getting my hopes up about a new Avensis diesel being terribly reliable.

I suppose if when the timing chain goes at least because a Toyota will have a transverse engine the chain will be a lot more accessible than it is in a BMW, where the engine has to come out of the car to replace the chain because some idiot in BMW decided that a great place to put the chain is at the back of the engine:rolleyes:.

Just sit in one, they are incredibly dull and uninteresting compared to the other 3.

I agree, a poverty spec Mondeo, 3 series etc aren't terribly nice either, but at least they're not as dreary and dull as a poverty spec Avensis. Although, the facelifted cars do look a lot smarter inside, even the poverty spec ones.

I think the current one actually looks quite nice on the outside. It looks quite streamlined on the road. I dont know anything about the inside or driveability but it's not a bad looking car.

Funny thing is, I know a couple of fellas with the last model and they dont like the current one at all.................probably says something. God, I hated that last model.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,833 ✭✭✭✭ThisRegard

I too thought/think the current ones are quite nice looking from the outside, but as I said you'll be spending most of your time looking at it from the inside out and it's just fairly dull. And basic spec still have windy windows in the rear, I think all Toyotas do but I wouldn't expect it from an Avensis.
