    Hey lads,

Will do this in bullet points to avoid a rant:
    • I have a 750GB Truecrypt Sytstem Encrypted Drive
    • I have the password
    • I do not have the rescue disk
    • I can mount the partitions from another OS
    • Windows install on the first big partition is f'cked
    • I need to get it back working by midday tomorrow if at all possible

My plan was to mount the drive and then acronis from the virtual disk to create a plain image, that the win7 disk could then repair. BUUT, Acronis TI cant do a full image of a virtual disk, only a file backup.

So, is there any way I can make a new rescue disk to decrypt with? Or allow a win7 disk to repair the install? Or any other solution.

I've looked at it every which way, but the only thing I can do is grab the files and clean install, which isnt an option here.

If any of ye have any input I'm all ears at this point,
    TIA,
    ED-E.

If you haven't deleted the TrueCrypt Rescue Disk.iso and if you can still mount the system partition, yes.

Full disk encryption is a pain in the hoop...

We regularly have laptop users come back to us with dead HD's due to encryption...

Do you absolutely need the entire disk encrypted?

Never thought to check if the owner left the ISO in the truecrypt directory, unfortunately, no such luck.

It wasnt me, and I agree, pain in the hole.

You'd think they'd include a decrypter in the bootloader, so one you knew the pass you could decrypt the system pre-boot.

So the owner lost the rescue disk, deleted the ISO and now (s)he expects someone else to fix his/her follies? Some nerve... ;)

ALIENWARE? I thought if you buy one of these it's all about speed and performance? Drive encryption results in a 20% drive performance loss or so. Some waste. ;)

Its an old C2D, dunno the GPU, but yeah, I cant go into the reason why it was encrypted publicly, but from his POV it made sense.

As much as I hate alienware/dell I still looked up the modern M11x on Amazon. If only I had 1K STG to blow it would be lovely to be able to game on the train.
