    Hi guys,

    Just a quick question really.

I'm buying one of these http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/tablets/375595/disgo-9104 this evening, just wondering one thing on them.

Can you install google play for downloading apps?

I presume you can. If someone has done it on this or any other tablet can you tell me the pitfalls if there are any and anything I should be mindful of etc..

If not its not a big deal as I'll be just using it for the internet really but would nice to give it better access if you know what I mean.

Oh and I'll need to install some virus software as well I presume.

Is there any free software I can put on it? Is it advisable, again I presume it is.

Sorry for all the questions I'm new to this tablet lark but dont have the money for an IPAD 2 hence choosing this one.

    Thanks,

    Eoin

XDA-Developers is the place to check re installing Google Play, it should be possible.

As for AV ive never had one on any of my android devices, common sense will tell you whats malware, to be honest I dont know how anyone gets caught. Natural Selection and all that :P

Why not just get a nexus 7?

    Even the reviews say that..

    http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/tablets/375595/disgo-9104

There seems to be a lag issue with keyboard input, God knows how though.. The reviewers above, pcpro, still had issues after a change of keyboard (app).

The price is too high for a tablet that will need severe fiddling to become useful, along with the need for community support to push a better Rom out.

OP, unless money is burning the threads in your pocket, hold off and have a think.

If you know someone in the UK you can get a nexus 7 today and get them to post it over.

A few people have said why not nexus 7.

I want a bigger screen tbh. I think the 7" is too small.. (giggidy)

    Plus its more expensive.

The Disgo seems to do everything I want in a tablet, ie big crisp screen, HDMI, internet, decent storage.

I went to get it last night and its sold out in every curry's/pc world in the Republic of Ireland.

Its retailing at €179 which I think is a great price. Cant even get that online.

What alternative 10" tablet would you suggest?

As I mentioned I dont want a nexus due to screen size. It does sound good otherwise but the screen is too small imo.

I considered the IPAD 2 refurb but I just dont want to pay 300quid.

    Under 200 is my budget.

I dont get what you mean by severe fiddling either.

Seems to me the only problem which to be honest I dont even see as a massive deal is the access to google play, which also seems to be managable with a small amount of tweaking.

I'm not a mad techie so you'll have to explain that last comment also about the only community pushing the Rom?

    Sorry for my ignorance.

    Cheers,

    Eoin

A tablet without Google Play access or the 'Google Suite' (maps email etc) is, halfway through 2012, pardon my language, a cripple.

    There's no excuse for it.

A manufacturer that releases a product like that, at this time, is unlikely to offer ongoing software support for it. It's a dead end.

For any progression, either with Google services or Play access, you're going to be relying 100% on 'community support' at sites like XDA and similar, to push forward any new features.

    ---

Go don't make that tablet, it's a generic Chinese rebadge.. if you have a quick search on XDA or Google about various other sites, you'll probably be able to pick up that very same tablet, for less, from China, even with a payment to Customs.

Some of the Onda tablets are comparable to this price range, Dual Core and sporting Dual Mali GPUs too. Play Store included. Price range, depending on source, is roughly the same.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Onda-Vi40-Dual-core/dp/B007IH40YU/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_1_1/280-5744819-8763446

The above is, rounded up, excluding P&P, £140 Sterling, which, thanks to X-Rates, comes to €177 at todays rate. You get so much more at a hardware level. I'm not saying you should get it, but just to open your mind to other brands/choices.

    Hi there,

I have had the 9104 for several weeks now and I can't really fault it.

The Google Play store is working (I found a great installation procedure in the following link; http://wildestpixel.co.uk/index.php/tweak-notes/28-playstore-on-disgo-8104-and-9104-simple-installaer). Once installed, I logged in with my Google account and started installing apps.

It has not been mentioned on previous threads but the device also comes with about €150 worth of apps. Particularly, this includes the OfficeSuite Pro6 which takes care of all my document viewing and editing needs.
The screen uses the same quality as the original iPad and it has a great viewing angle. Images and videos are really clear.

Obviously, it does not have the processing power (single-core processor) of the more expensive tablets but like you I am using it primarily for internet, viewing movies and listening to music.
Connection to internet is only via a wireless network. No 3G.

Also, in reply to earlier comparisons you get a lot more screen on the 9104 (9.7") than the Nexus Tablet (7"), which, in my opinion, makes a lot of difference when viewing websites and watching movies...

If you need some other feedback on the tablet, have a look at the Which? review on YouTube; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtMb7awYfbE

    I hope this helps.

As far as I remember, the tablet restarted automatically after the install.
I then went to the app screen and the Google Play icon was there.
From here, I simply tapped on the icon and logged in using my Google account.

I'm certainly no expert on this, but I would try and restart the tablet and have a look for the app.
Maybe, even try running the Installer file "run" again. Remember, the first part of the process is simply to get the tablet communicating with the PC.

    Hope this helps.
