Poor jobs on re-surfacing of roads

Can someone tell me why the hell when roads (or parts of roads) are being resurfaced that a huge lot of loose stones are left on the road after the work is done ?. I think doing this is very dangerous and these stones could be used for filling potholes rather than wasting them like this...
seems like a piss poor job is done to ensure the road is clean afterwards.

I've never seen this practise being done in any other country and i travel a lot for my job.

    Short version.. it's cheaper.

Fully agree with you though. The right front side of my car and bonnet is destroyed with little marks because even if you take your time on a road like that, the idiot coming towards you doing 80 in his beat-up 95 Corolla doesn't give a toss whether his car or anyone else's gets damaged as a result

Spare a thought for motorcyclists as well. Gravel all over the road plus two wheels is not a healthy combination.

Recessionary road surfacing, The chips do seem a bit smaller than before (the 80's) though.

You'd imagine that putting down some proper asphalt would be a better long term option. Half the stones get wasted and after 6 months the benefit is gone anyway.

Just last week the council resurfaced a few km of road near my house and in the 24 hours that followed I'm aware of 3 car crashes including one which ended up on its roof because they skidded on loose stones!

Ah but then they get to go out and do it again - keeps the boys in jobs and helps justify the budget requirements the council submits for next year.
