Leap Card for over 16

Hello, my daughter just turned 16 and her leap card is for up to 16 only, i called them up and was told i must get an adult card for her. She will then have to pay adult fares when travelling to school. They expect to release a student card in the future but no date yet. Is this correct? Surely not? there is no card for a child over 16 going to school? they used to have smart cards for luas but these are discontinued. Why did they get rid of the old card before they had a replacement. I don't want to get a weekly card as she only commutes home from school so it would be a waste. Anyone else in this scenario, i'd be interested to hear, thanks.

Yeh, thanks for that, the problem i have is my daughter get the Luas home from school each and uses the bus at weekends. the leap card was ideal for this. I'm more thinking of the Luas fares as it looks like she will have to pay adult fares during school.

Is there no DB route that she could use rather than LUAS?

is there an actual luas student fare?
i thought it was just child or adult with the option of a weekly student card

Not as far as I've seen. They consider over 16 to be adult.

AFAIK, I thought it was the same on Dublin Bus? With the exception of travel for school hours.

DB have the scholar 16-18 card for travel to/from school.

    Otherwise adult fares apply.

This is where i have the problem, children travelling to school on the Luas shouldn't have to pay adult fares. Dublin Bus don't.

What was i asking about then?

    My first post:

    My second post:

you were focusing on the student fare not being available for the leap card, but i doesnt exist at all. Youve quoted yourself out of context ;)

I am slightly surprised that you say there is no bus alternative - are you absolutely sure about that?

I am slightly surprised that you would think there is a bus alternative to every Luas journey. I live in Cherrywood, there is no direct bus to Carrickmines, Leopardstown, Dundrum, Ranelagh, etc, etc.

    Well not strictly true.

The 145 connects with the 75 to serve Dundrum.

The DB Scholar Travel 90 10 Journey ticket allows that entire trip to be done for €0.70.

Similarly it connects with the 63 at Cornelscourt to serve Carrickmines.

Ranelagh is a short walk from the 145 along Appian Way.

There are bus alternatives that will be cheaper - they will in this case just take a little longer and might require more planning to make connections.
