Rolling roadblock on the M50 yesterday evening

    M50 yesterday evening, going northbound.

Garda car enters at the N7 junction, followed by two Army vehicles sandwiching a Brinks van, probably escorting a large sum of cash.

Garda car sits in the middle lane, with one of the Army vehicles and the Brinks van behind it. The rear Army vehicle moves into the overtaking lane, and sits there in a position just off the tail of the Brinks van.

The entire convoy moves along at 80-85 km/h as far as the Ballymun exit, when all three moved into the left hand lane, where they should have been to begin with

Great to see agents of the state setting such a great example on our roads.

If I was a a proffesional armed robber, my escape route would be pretty important, therfore stopping the truck on the motorway and getting away, when on the motorway, would be a good idea to me.

Would be a bit hard to fly up and force the truck to pull over if there is a couple of hundred cars blocking the road.

Not saying they should have done that, just saying I see their logic for doing it!

Same happened lat week, going home around 6pm Northbound just past Finglas i came across a similar convoy. They all sat in the overtaking lane at about 90kph.

Nobody had the balls to pass them in the middle lane, they seem to think the Garda would abandon the convoy to pull someone for passing them on the left.

They do have cameras in the car. I'd imagine if you annoyed them they'd just radio in your reg, and you get a knock on the door later. Or a nice letter in the post.

Go oooooon. I dare ya! :D

I said pass on the left, not undertake ;)

I passed this convoy myself yesterday on the M50. Although it was just after the Finglas entrance and they were already in the left lane then... But yeah, they were only doing about 85km/h.

It's funny how the slight glimpse of a Garda car had people slowing down to nearly match it's speed, just because. There were people in the outside overtaking lane who slowed down from doing 100-105 to probably 90 or so, just because they saw it.

I've regularly passed them on the left coming down the Naas road!

Some army vehicles are limited speedwise. MP's could be anywhere, speed checking them

If you were a professional armed robber you'd ignore a security van escorted by the fecken army and rob a load of petrol stations manned by people on minimum wage instead.

I think that if the van had army escort, it would be carrying a considerable amount more that a few petrol station tills. The above would be the attitude of a jumped up thug making the jump to armed robbery, I think a person who did armed robberies as their sole means of income would have a different attitude when analysing the risk/return payoffs.

I do this now after i was pulled over for overtaking a garda, his exact words were there should be a law against overtaking a member of the gardai, i was on the M50 doing a spot on 100kph he was doing id say about 80 taking the tallaght exit, then he claimed i was doing 130kph because thats what he needed to do to catch up with me, nothing to do with the fact id kept driving after he had to slow down to cross the hatch markings.
Then left me with a warning to watch out for the drunk drivers out there, i should slow down to avoid them.

Since then i will sit behind a garda car doing 95kph instead of having to deal with such an idiot again.

On topic, makes sense what they where doing as stealthyspeeder was saying.

I thought you were re-routing it through Russian companies?

If a robber see's there is a cop car and 2 army 4x4s there is no way at all they will hit that convoy as it's a death wish unless the cops were given a tip off that something may be going to hapen but doubt taht very much

I think if you expect a cash in transit robber to take on an joint Irish army / garda convoy, you've been watching too many movies !

Today at 1pm on the M50 between Ballymount and Lucan exits a cop car and motorbike cop holding up all 3 lanes on the M50 speeds down to 20kph for no reason at all.

Had me late for an afternnon appointment and lots of explaining to do.

Has anyone else experienced this delay at this time and can you post here so the person I nearly let down can know it was not just me stuck on the M50 at 20% of the rated speed for no reason at all.

No idea why there was a rolling roadblock, but if slow traffic from Ballymount to Lucan is enough to make you late for an appointment, you should reconsider your departure time next time.

How do you know it "was for no reason at all"? Could have been some debris on the road that needed clearing, or any number of things.

If I was a professional armed robber, I`d probably come off the ramp before them with three fully prepared cars, assault rifles, grenades rocket launchers and whatnot, not trying to catch up with them from behind. ;)

I nearly had a chump up my tailend attempting to make his bumper an intmate part of my back....

Not funny if it was cops throwing their weight around and acting the jackboot dictator for no reason at all.

The only conceivable reason could have been some incident involving a robbery and car chase at Ringsend...maybe they were trying to block them off.

Looked like the motorway workers were trying to remove remains of a swan(or very big goose!) from the middle lane, between Red Cow and Lucan Rd. just before lunch time.

....I have seen remains of cats, dogs, badgers, foxes (near the exit for foxrock funnily enough) but never swans.

There is a section of the Grand canal near there so that would make sense. Also lots of swans near Dolphins Barn not too far away.

    Poor bird.

But funnily enough no dead Dolphins either? right:D
