Sadly most people who read this forum probably don't know who Charlie wolf is but believe me he is a great broadcaster and Newstalk should hire him.

Charlie Wolf would make Michael Graham look like a communist.biggrin.gif

He used to present a show for RedFM in Cork, so he's probably known in Cork.

Used to enjoy listening to him on talkSPORT

The worst overnight presenter Talksport ever had.

Whatever happened to John Kearns? His show with spanner was quite good.

Would never ever work here. His pro Bush republican bull**** killed his radio show in Cork.

Americans who are loud, opinionated, jewish, and love George bush are not for the Irish radio market. No.

I think the reason Kearns went was because the powers that be disagreed with your first sentence.

Wolf reminds me of the better days at Talksport along with James Whale and Mike Dickin.

I would suspect the main reason why RedFM had him was to get some publicity at their launch.

His show was pretty much a carbon-copy of the late-night stuff he does on TalkSport and it didn't really work with a late night audience in Ireland. There just aren't really that many people who are into right wing ranting.

I remember he tried to go on an anti-Euro (currency) rant which just got no response from the audience at all.

They also did a live link into the FM104 phone show which seemed to get a weird response in Dublin too.

Then he went on another rant against the plastic bag charge, and just loads of callers in support of the bag tax. Most people actually seemed to support the measure, which he didn't really seem to understand.

He didn't seem to know how to pick issues that would actually light-up a Cork audience and went for stuff that would get the average Sun-reading English cabbie hot under the collar i.e. Europe etc.

I'd never really attempt to categorise Ireland as left or right wing. It can be remarkably left wing on a lot of issues and then it can switch to right wing on some issues too (less and less so, but it still happens).

I'd say we are quite pragmatic about most things.

I don't think it had anything to do with Charlie Wolf personally. He wouldn't be my cup of tea, but in the genre he operates he's a good presenter with decades of experience.

It was just that he wasn't at all familiar with the Irish / Cork audience and the fact that they are more into the Gerry Ryan show form of shock jockery than right vs left wing ranting.

I would seriously doubt that he intended to stay in Cork in the long term anyway as he's a reasonably decent career in the UK.

Kearns hinted on the last show that he had asked for more money, the answer was no - so he quit. Just googled him, he now presents a show on CityBeat fm in Belfast

Well I do know who Charlie Wolf is and that is why I think Newstalk definitely should NOT hire him.

Wolf was a decent presenter who I violently disagreed with; Michael Graham is a brutal presenter who I violently disagree with.

I'd consider him an upgrade over Graham...

As I was saying above too, I think Charlie Wolf is a good presenter. He's just not presenting the kind of show I'd usually listen to or enjoy.

I think Newstalk have Graham on the Hook show to give an insight into right-wing US political debate, not just because he's a shock jock. Charlie's American, but he's UK-based for decades now.

He was absolutely dire on Red FM now granted his replacement isn't any better.

Is there something wrong with being Jewish?

Talk Sport is where I first heard him, back when James Whale was there as well. Wouldn't be my cup of tea with his world view. Interesting character, mind.

You hear him on 5 Live from time to time.

He's on most Sunday nights on 5 Live with Stephen Nolan. Also appears on Sky News as newspaper previewer.

Remember listening to Charlie on Red FM, he used to really take the p1ss out of Knocknaheeny on "Cork Talks Back"

He used to do a weekend overnight show on TalkSport around the same time. He would finish the Red FM show on Sunday night (I think) and then sometimes do the TalkSport show immediately after from the Red FM studios.

He went on to do the breakfast show on Red for a while before leaving. That was a strange one.

Here's a memory, Charlie may not remember it. https://audioboo.fm/boos/485808-charlie-wolf-collapses-on-air#t=0m17s

Think it was possibly staged though. If the desk op/producer saw Carlie collapse he would have gone straight to some audio. Not leave the mic open when he goes in to studio to see what happened.
