So i'm hoping to pick up my new bike on Friday and I'm looking for advice on what I need to get with it.

The bike is a Giant Rapid 2 and I will be using it for a roughly 17k each way commute. I have already ordered lock, helmet, bottle cage, lights, mudguards and hard case tires. I'm thinking I will need some sort of bag, a pump(with guage?), water bottle and a multi-tool.

Am I missing anything apart from the drop bar conversion that from reading the forum is inevitable. (Part of the reason for getting the rapid is the potential to convert should I get bitten by the bug.)

    Thanks

    Grudle

a puncture repair kit with tyre levers and some reflective gear if you're going out in dusk, night or bad weather.

It's always a good idea to travel with a spare tube/pump/tire levers. Nothing worse getting stranded with a flat miles from home with no way to get yourself going.

You may need to build up some bike specific if you want to carry out basic repairs at some stage but cross that bridge when you come to it. Also the main cause for flats is improper tire pressure. Quite a lot of hassle and energy to achieve with a hand pump. I'd get a track pump with a gauge and top up the air every second or third morning before work, only takes a few seconds with a decent pump.

Don't scrimp on the lock either. €40 for a decent Kryptonite lock and cable for the wheels is the minimum you should be spending. If the one you ordered was a cheapo one i'd upgrade.

    Good luck.
