Was speaking with 2 people today and they both said that 2nd hand cars are slow to sell at the moment?

    Is this true?

Damn, bad time to sell a car then :(

In our experience there are 3 or 4 types of car that are in demand and as a consequence are selling well and are in short supply. If you are trying to sell something outside of these then you will have serious trouble. For example a 2008 petrol Focus is almost sale-proof compared to the in-demand diesel despite there being nothing wrong with it as a car.

Thanks for that George, so if I am selling a car and not getting any calls I should look at a Trade In??

Yes it is very hard to sell a car now. I have mine up on DD a month and haven't gotten 1 serious enquiry even though the ad has had 2000 views since it went up. It's been up on carzone a few days and has 157 views. Views are not an indication as to what interest is in the car as a sale moreso than it being people admiring the car or something along those lines.

I wouldn't mind but the car I want next is even harder to sell but I'm a definite buyer if I sell mine. Can't buy it otherwise as it's a private sale but if it was a dealer selling it I'd have traded in long ago.

Techie, don't rule out printing out the ad and sticking in local shops and stuff, notice boards and that

I assume you are being fleeced on a Trade In?

It might be a tad high, but you can always come down.

The car I want is a private sale, not a dealer. I have edited my post to include that :)

I even have my own car priced rock-bottom and I am not making 1 cent "profit".

Nah, not worth it really. Due to prices, it's even cheaper to buy it up there but if you did that and imported it here you'd end up forking out 2 or 3 grand more than what I have mine priced at.

    i see it now, sorry.

i'm not sure what its worth really but it seems reasonable enough. although, most people buying cars like yours now seem to think it has to be diesel and nothing else so it might be a little harder to sell on.

Diesel has more potential for Big repair bills if anything goes wrong though, it can be a false economy.

Try telling that to a nation brainwashed forced into buying diesel cars due to our piss-ant government who have basically ruined the soul of motoring for future generations who will all grow up saying "we always had diesel cars in our house"...*shudder*

Great time for buying large petrol barges, outstanding value in the sub €5k range, my only worry is in 5 years time the supply will have dried up.

In fairness MM, your car is unique in that it is not an ordinary run of the mill car that appeals to the masses, even in the good times there was a very limited market in this country for a MPS. It will find a new home but it may take some time.

True but no (affordable) performance car appeals to the masses does it? My main problem with getting it sold is that the car I'm going for next is a specific one for reasons which I don't want to divulge :) If the seller drops the price, it'll fall into some else's price range and will be imithe!!

I'm going for an RX8 next and the guy selling it wants a diesel for all the wrong reasons. As long as I can drive and have a job, I will be driving cars like these. I say more power to people who own petrol performance cars like RX8s, S4s (George) et al!

Amen to that. If things go according to plan my next car will cost even more to tax and be even harder on petrol than my current one :pac:

Same brand naturally but I think the "R" might have to wait another while yet ;)

I see, so the number will be increasing :D

The number will stay the same but the engine capacity and number of cylinders will be increasing. The number of turbos will be decreasing however :(

    I am currently running a 2.7 V6 twin turbo. It's a slippery slope....
