It's to stop other websites screen scraping and re-presenting the material as thier own. Ticketmaster do the same thing, and yep they are a pain in the ass!

It stops automated programs from abusing the service!
It says it there on the page ;)

So why doesn't Aerlingus do the same? Its an absolute pleasure to use their website, and many times flights are cheaper..

You probably had to fill in a similar screen when registering for boards.ie and virtually every other discussion website uses the same blocker to stop auto registration so I can't really see that you have any cause for complaint.

Others have answered the 'why?' question, move on.

Yes I can understand the security checks for signing up and registering.

But simply doing a flight search it does not seem right.. well not if no other airline requires this on their website. ?

Makes the whole process of searching for a cheap flight a little bit harder.

I've found the Ryanair 'captcha' to be particularly hard to resolve on a number of occasions. I don't know whether it's just that I'm more likely to use their site than others that use the same technology or whether theirs is more complicated, but I find it really annoying. I don't seem to have the same error rate on other sites like Ticket Master, or as above maybe this is becuase I don't use Ticket Master as much.

Because Aer Lingus allow screen scrapers most likely.

If you're not 100% sure about the characters, click the refresh button to get a new challenge, it's explained on the screenshot above.

Agree the Ryanair 'captcha' is more difficult than other sites who use 'captcha's'.

    But it's not impossible!

P.S. Whats the plural for Captcha?

    Probably captchas without the apostrophe!

As regards the issue, you can refresh the captcha if it's unreadable - and it doesn't count as an attempt.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

    Holy moley.

I've just tried and failed *at least* 15 times to enter their POC captcha. What in the name of whatever they believe in are they thinking ?

Check out the samples in the attached file. I especially like the second word in the first one. I'm good, but I'm not that good.

I also tried the audio one to see what it was like. My head almost exploded. It lasted for at least a minute before I killed it. Are we supposed to write out an essay or something ?

I agree - the Ryanair Captchas can be very difficult to unravel.
