Rent allowance Reduction

With the new reduction in the max amount of rent supplement you can get i am just wondering has anyone had any luck in there landlord reducing there rent,my landlord wont as its over 200 euro,which is a huge drop!:mad:

I've been in your situation, so believe me, I know how hard it is.
I had to ask my landlord for a reduction twice while I was on RA and he was happy to do it because he was happy with us as tenants but if I was a landlord, I don't think I'd have been happy with it.

I can understand why yours might not want to-after all, he can always get another tenant in, but if he's really happy with you, he should at least consider it, rather than risk losing you and getting someone else in.
€200 seems like a big drop-is that right?
All you can do is ask your landlord and if he wont, then you'll have to find somewhere else.

I know that doesn't seem like the best option, but what can you do?
It's not your fault the RA has been reduced.

One of the letters we had re this suggested passing the letter on to the landlord.

We have twice had the ll reduced rent to allow for this. I think they gear rents too high and will allow for this.

I am in wicklow so got hit very hard,she has a huge mortgage to pay so she just cant do it,there is not one property on daft for 725 in my area,my daughter is in school here so i am sick over it all,so so stressful,i would not get a box for 725!

Sometimes all we can do is move. I know changing schools is hard but...

Just checked daft for some reason only 1 came up when I tried E700 but when I tried E800 218 properties and many of them well under E700 .. site must be having a blip...

I'm guessing you have two other children who just haven't started school yet as 740 is the max for Wicklow and needs 3 children with 670 being for 2 children. I think that means you're gonna need at least a 3 bed place.

There's 48 properties with 3 beds on daft at 725 or below but that's a whole county. Was there any Town in particular that you would like to stay in? Here's the search I put in:

Welfare.ie and Citizens info says Dublin is the only country with rent supplement more than 700 for Couple/Single Parent with 1 Child.

Both those webpages say Wicklow is 625 but I think Greystones is very close to Dublin though (http://goo.gl/maps/QZf1A) so I'm guessing it has a higher limit because of that.

For Greystones, daft.ie has only 1 property (a 1 bedroom apartment for 700) at or below 725:

I'd say it'd be a good idea for you to discuss this with your CWO. Explain that your landlord won't budge and that you're child is in school there and you are now in a very difficult situation. Hopefully your CWO would have some advice/options for you.

After that, as a longshot, it might be no harm checking any (free?) local newspapers for rentals that are 725 or under. Also, it might be worth a shot sending messages to the people over 725 on daft.ie to see if they'd come down in price for you.

Edit to add: Another long shot might be to check for places to rent on supermarket noticeboards.
