Hello, I am a new member to this board. I registered because I have been offered a job as a Trainee Fund Accountant role which I will commence very shortly.

I am a 19 year old student who have finished college recently and I had planned to either get a job in an accountancy firm or to go to university to take a degree in Management Studies at Leicester.

The job offered to me has a decent starting salary along with bonuses and other added benefits such as travel, health and life insurance. I was wondering if this a good opportunity to pursue a career in accountancy as the firm is rather small and have around 20-25 people working in this regional office. The accounting department currently has 4-5 employees.

The questions I want to ask is whether starting an accountancy role in a small firm will affect my future? (such as getting into bigger firms) which I have read some may require people to qualify in the top firms rather than smaller ones.

The other question is how much would I be paid after qualifying? I will be studying a part-time ACCA course which takes about 3 years to pass. During this time I will also be working for the company. The company specialises in providing fund accounting services to private equity clients.

Thank you for taking time to read my wall of post!

    King regards
    Meng
