Of Cleats, Dodgy Knees and Duck Feet

After about 25km on the road bike, I'm getting some grief from the outside of my right knee. It's enough to be annoying, though it goes away after a day or so.

I suspect the cleats - highly non-euro SPDs with no float. I'm naturally a bit duck-footed, and actually had to straighten the angle a bit from my natural position because my heel was clipping the chainstay. I've noticed that on the pub bike, I tend to use the outer part of the pedal.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Might changing to some better pedals / shoes help? Or do I just need to work on technique?
    Tx

check saddle height, angle of cleats, and try the red keo cleats, plenty of float in them

These lads will extend the pedal spindle...

Mark Cavendish used to have custom wide spindle pedals, presumably to give him a wider stance during sprints. He doesn't use them these days though.

You need to get a bike fitting. It will be €50-100 but money well spent. There are guys on here who can do it or receommend someone close to you. Seriously, you will be very lucky to hit on a correct adjustment to your bike on your own, and you'll be glad you made the investment in your cycling comfort and performance......

bike fitting might help but it hasn't helped me. it actually made it worse. now on top on my knee problems I have sore hip too. I thinking about reversing my bike setup to what it was before getting the bike fit (100eur burned yeay)
Extending pedal spindle could be helpful. has anybody on here any experience with those?
