Tom Hardy Vs David Haye

Didn't know whether to put this in boxing or films but I suppose it is for entertainment reasons and not competition, also I find I would watch this purely for Hardy.

    http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news/83206/Tom-Hardy-To-Fight-David-Haye-Itll-Be-An-Experience
Tom Hardy has to get in the ring with professional boxer David Haye for a charity match.

The 'Dark Knight Rises' actor, who starred as a cage fighter in the 2011 movie 'Warrior' has agreed to fight it out.

It looks as though the pair will come to blows as part of a match that will benefit good causes including the Prince's Trust, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Help For Heroes, Bowel Cancer Research as well as the homeless charity FLACK.

Talking to The Sun, the actor who plays Bane in the final instalment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, said: “Hardy v Hayemaker? No problem. Let me take my make-up off first. I'll fight him as soon as I get back from the Congo with my mates if he wants. I've never fought a professional heavyweight, it'll be an experience.

“I would obviously prefer my first professional fight to be against someone in my weight category but hey-ho.”

The 34-year-old is currently filming a TV documentary in the Congo about survival, but he admits that he's not imagining that his fight against Haye is going to have a good ending and referred to Mickey Rourke's three-year boxing career in the 1990s before giving it up.

''Let's have it. We all know how this is going to end don't we ... not good for Tommy. ''This is sort of like Mickey Rourke. But Mickey's a better actor and boxer than me. How about singing lessons instead?'” he joked.

Meanwhile, boxing champion David Haye has revealed that he wouldn't mind starring as an ultimate villain like Bane from 'Dark Knight Rises'.

''I think it would be easier to play a hero at the moment, but I would like to play a villain and Bane just looks so vicious. If someone finds a baddie for me to play then I reckon I could pull that part off,” he told BANG Showbiz.

''I really want to learn to act, I've had to train so hard for so many years that it'll be interesting having to learn something all over again.''

This would be very interesting, I am not a die hard boxing fan but would pay for box office to see this! Although I wouldn't like to see Hardy's image ruined by getting his ass handed to him in the ring hopefully (if it does go ahead) it would be a fun match to watch. Opinions?

Would it not be fairer to go for a MMA style fight?

Since you know, one of these chaps is a professional fighter whilst the other just played one...

Hardy better brush up on his bottling defence.

It'll be a shít match, it's just a charity thing so both will be holding back. Although Hardy probably shouldn't if he's to stand any chance at all. It's no contest.

This reminds me actually, whatever happened to Van Damme's return to the ring?

    He should fight Uwe Boll.

I don't think Haye could ever play a convincing baddie.

Normally the bad guys in movies are people on a mission, with a purpose.

Any bad guy Haye would play would have to be just like the "actor" himself...... just an all-round c*nt!

Obviously this wont end well for Hardy, But I'd love to see Haye getting his head knocked off!

    Don't be so silly!

Tom Hardy is an actor who has limited training in boxing and martial arts.

David Haye is not only a professional boxer who has been boxing all his life, he is also a former World Champion at 2 different weights!

Im not sayin he'll win - but I reckon he wont look as out of his depth as your average actor...and hayes a shadow of previous heavy weights like lennox lewis...

This is a complete joke that only appeals to the lowest common denominator who have trouble distinguishing between what they see on the big screen and real life. If this "show" goes ahead, people should remember it is only entertainment.

Anyone who honestly believes that Tom Hardy has a genuine chance in a legitimate boxing match against a professional boxer like Haye is a complete idiot. They'd probably also believe that Christian Bale should be sent into Afghanistan to single handily destroy the Taliban.

The stupidity of people today never ceases to amaze me.

    Not the point.

When did the film forum become so full of bile? Calling people the "lowest common denominator" for being interested in a charity exhibition fight? Really? And saying "Don't be so silly" is no different to calling them stupid; trying to cushion the blow by a 'less harsh' insult is still plain rude. This forum is getting really difficult not to hate.

Well, Stallone beat Afghanistan, so Christian Bale would have a decent chance

    Nonsense.

If this were a competitive fight Hardy would be knocked out in the first 20 seconds.

    Oh stop being so precious!

The guy said an actor would have a chance against a World Champion boxer in a boxing match.

He WAS being silly! Saying he was being silly is completely different from calling him stupid!

Whats not the point? I reckon he'll give Haye a good go - probably not as good a go as you, the ultimate keyboard warrior would obviously give him - but a good go none the less.

Will he win? No. Did I say he would? No. Do I remotely care? No. Do you need to get out more often? Yes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48 nikkime

    Nonsense.

Right, and the average actor may only last 3 seconds - so once again he wont look AS OUT OF HIS DEPTH etc...etc....

Trying to win an argument against me by the way is akin to Mr Bean fighting Mike Tyson.

Yeah, getting KO'd in 20 seconds would show he's not out of his depth! Nice

    I don't doubt it Rowan!

Where did I say he'd have a good chance? I said he'd give him a good go, for an actor...I assumed you'd have had the capacity to undertake such an assumption - clearly not. Ok, would you like me to spell everything out for you in an over elaborative, painstaking way from now on?

Do you understand that by using the word "AS" the sentence then becomes an exercise in relative comparisons? Even a two letter word is causing you problems - I'm not sure I can be of assistance to you anymore....

Usually when a person presents an opinion it is useful to back it up with some level of reasoned logic. What on earth has given you the impression that an actor, with no real boxing experience, would give a high profile professional boxer a "good go"? I can only assume the foundation for this clearly ludicrous belief is the fact that Hardy put on weight and increased his muscle mass for a couple of films. If you believe that this will automatically give him any boxing ability, never mind the level needed to fight Haye then you have demonstrated that you are completely ignorant to all matters related to the sport of boxing.

The ridicule that your post received is warranted because it is, as another poster has already stated....nonsense.

Ah, you mean like "David Haye isn't AS good as Lennox Lewis, therefore Tom Hardy would give him a good go"?

Now I get it! Now I see it all differently! You've opened my eyes!

Perhaps, but I still reckon he'll give him a good go. That is better than other actors. Or perhaps you think Helen Mirren would give Haye a better go, in your much lauded and respected opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,814 ✭✭✭FortuneChip

So it's raising money for numerous charities
Prince's Trust, Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Help For Heroes, Bowel Cancer Research as well as the homeless charity FLACK

Celebrities have supported charities in lots of different sporting activities. Haye and Hardy decide to do one that is novel (I don't think it's been done since Rocky fought Hulk Hogan anyway), and the handbags come out on Boards.

I don't think we need to delve so deeply into the legitimacy of the fight, it's entertainment for charity. I don't think Haye will (not "would be able to") knock him out.

Tom Hardy & Helen Mirren have almost identical chances!

Even if Lewis was fighting for charity Id still worry for Hardy - as Lewis was an immense boxer. Haye isnt fit to wash Lewis' jockstrap in his mouth ...and so I maintain, I reckon Hardy will give him a decent go...

Will he win? No. Will he give him a decent go? Yeh, I think so.

    Very true!

Although I wouldn't give Haye too much credit. You're talking about a guy whose method of getting a fight against a fellow boxer was to turn up to a press conference just after the guy had lost, goad and insult him, and then proceed to assault him with a glass bottle.

This has nothing to do with films. Take it to Celebrity & Showbiz or After Hours. I'd move it there, but I'd have to delete all the sarcastic nastiness first and then the thread wouldn't make any sense.

    Locked.
