Hey all, I was wondering could anybody with any clue about Dublin bus and its timetables drop me a PM please? I'm moving there next month and I'm trying to figure it out, but the website is a bit of a nightmare. Cheers.

There are many posters here who will soon put you on the right track, so what is it exactly you are trying to figure out?

Erm....Will you be coming to work or study..?

Bus timetables are useless as traffic etc can't be prodicted. Most Dublin Bus's run with average intervials of 20 minutes and at most 30 off peak with extra services in mornings and evenings. You could look on there website for further details on routes and numbers etc.

If its studying there is a high chance you don't know where yet but if you say where you want to study and live people may be able to help more.

I'm looking to possibly live around the Rathmines area, but study at DIT in Mountjoy Square. Would that be any way possible or easy?

I get a total of 4 buses a day 5 days a week so ask me anything you need to know

    Dublin bus and its timetables
They don't really do timetables, just follow the route from A to B and back again until their shift is up.

Will most lightly require two buses. I'm not to sure but there is a bus I think the 15 from Rathimes to the Quay at (end of O'Connal St) and then you can walk to O'Connal St and get a bus to Mountiqoy Square. But a number of routes have changed recently so somebody else can confirm.

Rathmines is a great place to live if you a student!

Route 140 would be your best bet as it will take you directly from Rathmines to Parnell Square, 5 minutes walk from Mountjoy Square.

All the other routes through Rathmines, namely the 14, 15, 15a, 15b, 65, 65b and 83 will all bring you to adjacent O'Connell Bridge, a 15-20 minute walk from Mountjoy Square.

Despite what other posters say there are timetables, but the buses are only timetabled at their termini. The 140 starts in Rathmines so should be easy enough to judge.

There is a real time information system in place at many stops in Rathmines and online.

Thanks for the replies everyone! How long should it take could anyone tell me? And how much should I expect to pay?

About 30 minutes, you can see your options here:

    http://hittheroad.ie/#from=Rathmines&to=Mount+Joy+Square

Note it would also be a easy enough cycle.

That is bull, he is lying. You have to pay, however you may get a student card and pay a reduced rate.

€1.90 cash per trip or €1.70 if you get yourself a LEAP card (see www.leapcard.ie).

There are other commuter prepaid tickets available but they really favour people doing longer journeys than you will be.

Why post nonsense like this to a genuine request. Frankly you are doing yourself a disservice.

woah this isn't nonsense at all! A very good friend of mine has just completed his course in DIT and for 3 years he didn't have to spend a cent on bus fare because he just flashed his DIT card, unless he's been telling me fibs for the past 3 years and it's really a disability card!? I'll double check

Well your friend has been either defrauding Dublin Bus of their revenue or has a DSP issued free pass.

OP You should get a 30-Day Student Rambler. It's €86 but it's 30 days of unlimited travel and they don't have to be 30 consecutive days.

Works out at €2.85 a day. If you're getting 4 buses a day then it's definitely worth it.

couldn't agree more. You'll need to get a student travelcard to buy the student rambler ticket. You can pick up a form to fill out in college or Dublin Bus HQ on O'Connell street and then pay €12 for your card at the college student union. I'd buy a student rambler ticket asap to be perfectly honest with you because im sure bus fares etc will rise meaning the ticket will become more expensive. Also you must have the travelcard with you any time you use the bus ticket or else you might get a disgusting €50 fine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,287 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

The standard fare is now €100 - not €50.

I'd second the Student Rambler Smartcard - you can use as many buses as you like each day and as posted above the days are non-consecutive - the tickets usually have an 18 month shelf life.

Thanks for the replies! A thought just popped into my head, how about getting the LUAS from Ranelagh to Stephen's Green and then just walk to Mountjoy Square? Would that be relatively easy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,287 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

It would be a 30 minute walk - you'd almost be better walking the whole way.

As I said above - the 140 is your best bet.

    About 6-8 minutes.

Check out www.luas.ie for fare info - it's a 2 zone trip on the Green Line.

Is the 140 not a bus, no? Yeah the LUAS works out at like forty quid a month, which isn't too bad I guess

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,287 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Sorry I thought you meant how long the LUAS would take.

The 140 would take about 25 minutes.

    I already told you that - €1.90 cash / €1.70 LEAP Card.

Cheaper to get a 30 Day Dublin Bus Student Rambler ticket - as mentioned above.
