Just wondering what kind of range you should get out of a elley 4 cartridge. Just wondering as I am out shooting crows in Barley fields

They will probabily drop them much further than you'd think. Why not use 6's and make it a bit easier for yourself ?

I found 5's to be pretty good for crows etc..

4s generally wouldn't be the cartridge to use for crows, their more suited for ducks or even foxes.

I'd go for 6s or 5s as they lads said.

Fours have plenty of range but they don't spread that quick which is why their more suited to ducks etc.. which tend to be shot at longer ranges.

If your starting off I'd go with a 5 or 6 in 32 or 34g. They will spread more than the 4's and they will knock crows just as good as the 4's

lads the pattern (spread) is determined by the choke and wadding to some degree, not the size of shot ,
if you had a grand prix 7 32grm and an identical load in a 4, the pattern would be the same circumference at a given distance ,what would change would be the pellet count in that pattern
