Van insurance in Europe

I travelled to Belgium from Ireland in March. Since then my van has been parked in Belgium and my insurance policy has finished. I am now faced with the obstacle of brining the vehicle back to Ireland, my intentions are to return at the start of September by driving to Cherbourg in France and taking the ferry to Rosslare in Ireland. Does anyone have any advice for me regarding getting an insurance on the vehicle. I have considered getting my brother to insure the van by switching his insurance over from his car, is this possible? Any advice will be appreciated.

Ring your ins. co. and reinsure your van.
Most ins. cos. will not do transfers from private to commercial.

Yes. He should be able to transfer his policy temporarily, but it's also possible they could refuse on commercial grounds.

You could insure the van as normal and just bring it back. You don't have to tell them it's not in the country right now. If it's registered to you and is on irish plates, you should have no issue at all. You get 3 months abroad at a time anyway.
