There's one on Aungier street. I can't remember the name, (Laptop Doctor or something), but if you walk up Georges St (towards the DIT on Aungier Street), on the same side as The Long Hall and keep going it's just there on your right.

Make sure to back up any sensitive / personal data before you hand it in as repair shops don't accept liability for lost data.

    Hi Verres,
Have you actually used this repair shop?

I need to get mine repaired also but want to ensure whoever i give it to know what they are doing..
Also, I would like a quote before any repair work is done aswell as a fair price. :)

    OP

Try Moore Street , there are computer repair shops there and I have to say it i'ts pretty cheap compared to the others .

I heard stories about people being charged 90 Euros for replacing the jack power connector.

The thing is that I pay 5 Euros for this part on Ebay and usually takes me about 20/30 mins to get the job done .

40 maybe 50 Euros would be acceptable in my opinion

    Hi - no I haven't,

I do all my own repairs, but I've heard good things about them. Caveat emptor and all that, but I'd say they're okay.

It really depends here. Some laptops its easy to get at the DC power mount and just work the cable out, some it means a full disassembly, which takes time. An nice inspiron or w/e is quick to take down, but thats not true for all.

The other bit is, is it board mounted? If its a soldering job thats where the money goes. Desoldering and soldering can be a pain in the ass, especially if the VGA connector etc are mounted really close by.

Most legitimate business have to charge VAT and their warranty actually means something, if you are stripping down whole laptop and as stated above, some are time consuming then €70-€90 is normal. Cowboys who do it on their bedroom table and offer no warranty are risky but then again it's up to the customer I suppose.
