Has anyone any experience of this ?

I see Abbey Road are pushing their online mixing thing .

I believe thy charge £500 a track with one revision.

Has anyone used such a service, or would like to ?

Anything you can post so we can have a listen ?

I've sent stuff unattended to Abbey Road for mastering, but to the engineer I've worked with for a while now, and with whom I've attended a couple of sessions. Last time I was there, he was due to work on an online mastering job for someone. It's random which engineer you get...which is something that wouldn't appeal to me.
I don't dig the idea of sending a rock or dance record in for mastering and randomly getting the guy who usually specialises in the classical side of things.

I think picking a mix or mastering engineer is an important step, and wouldn't be entirely comfortable not knowing who's going to work on it. Their sensibilities for mix decisions might be at odds with what I want, for example.

You'd also want to have your session really well prepared I'd imagine...leaving them with no editing and just mixing to do is going to get the best results, so I would imagine this is aimed at the people who are working in a project studio or at home who want a pro to mix it in a "named" studio. Tbh, I reckon some of the local guys would do as good a job if you brought them a tightly edited, well prepped session that they could just dive into mixing.

A day in Windmill or the like, with no editing to do, will get a track mixed to a high standard, and you'll be able to attend.

But there'll always be a market for the online service with bands who want their stuff "mixed at Abbey Road" or whatever.
I'm sure they'll get good results, but I'd question whether they'll get better results than a local session.

I saw an offer they had, I think last year. £100 mastering per track - but a minimum of 9 tracks.

Are they offering mixing or mastering?

I can sort of understand unattended/online mastering assuming that the mix is top notch and the engineer has to fine tweak the almost finished article. I'd be way too scared to hand over material for an unattended mix though. Especially when you only get one revision.

Presumabley in this case you'd get the mix as far you you could then give it to Abbey rd to finish it before mastering?
