My first VW, a Mars Red Jetta Mk1 1.6 diesel, reg number 28 WZL was last registered to someone in Shrule, Co. Galway. It lived in Co Tipp for a long while but eventually ended up in Galway. Is there anyone on this forum who lives in the area who might know something about it? I spoke with the Motor Tax people today and they say that it still exists on their system but has not been taxed since 1996. Is the car in a shed somewhere on the Roscommon/Galway border? Or in a field? Can anyone help?

Here is a link to the Shrule & District Vintage Club

In the contact us section the club secretary (Bartley Horan) phone number is listed. I'm sure he would be able to to help you track it down.

Did the person in the office just tell you when it was last taxed or did you know someone working their?

I was talking to the office about another matter and as an aside I chanced my arm and asked if it was possible to trace a particular car and the answer was 'I cant give any details but I can tell you when it was last taxed and where'. This was enough for me and he added that it was still 'live' as in not offically scrapped!

I am a member of the Shrule and District Vintage Club but that car is not owned by any member as far as I am aware, the only VW owned by a member of the club is a Beetle, don't remember a Jetta. You can take a look at the photo's on the website to see if it attended any of our shows.

Could you ask around in the club to see if anyone knows of its whereabouts? Maybe someone has seen it
