Advertising cars isnt allowed here though

Could they be on about suggesting a particular car though?

Eg I do x amount of miles per year, I prefer diesel, frequently carry passengers, suggestions on a postcard etc...

I bet that one can't afford your MPS either :p

    LOL :D

To be honest, I think this is a very good idea for a thread and it should work as long as people don't advertise ANY car for sale.

I think a PM would be more suited as it's hard to tell if someone is posting their own car or just linking to one they found.

Posting car you are after is fine and then if someone is selling said car they can pm them, pm's are dodgy though :p

First pm i had when i joined VAGdrivers.net was some dolt trying to sell me a 2005 GTI for 12 grand and trying to convince me he was doing me a favour selling me a 2005 golf with 80,000+ miles and he wasn't tooooo bothered like but the girlfriend was on his case like.

    Haha

I would say the mods would need to mull it over but it has the makings of a good thread if not abused.

Way I see it working best is if someone is looking for a particular car or type of car, then the rest of us can post suggestions, even if it is our own car. On the other hand you shouldn't be allowed post a car unless that particular (or close to) type of car is required.

Just thinking out loud here but already I can see it's gonna become a severe pain in the ass to mod - even worse than the original off topic thread! :D

But some help find a car threads go on a but like Alanstrainor's 325 thread. Then there could be a situation of this thread getting clogged with chat from that or multiple help find a car threads running simultaneously along with this one which defeats the purpose of this one a little bit.

However, for looking for a diesel for less than 5k etc. it could be handy

I didn't really understand your post but I'm sure it makes sense - to someone.

Reading it again I'm not sure I do.

While I think the idea of the thread is a good one, having all the "recommend a car" type threads could lead to it being very difficult to follow.

For example the thread for helping Alanstrainor to find a car was a massive thread and by having other posters request recommendations in the middle of that thread some would go by unnoticed or unanswered.

Some requests are easier than others and could be in one thread, but others, such as Alanstrainor's would require their own thread.

    Also, perhaps a template, eg:

    Make/Model:
    Year(s):
    Petrol/Diesel:
    Budget:
Limiting Factors: eg below 100k miles
    Spec:

    Or

    Requirements
    Doors:
    Seats:
    How many child seats:

Something as above maybe to limit questions asked of the poster so replies can be links to cars

That's where the quote function comes into play ;)
