How long after my theory can I do my driving test?

I know about the 6 month rule and the 12 ADI lessons. But when can I apply for my test and how long would I have to wait after I do my theory? Is the waiting list usually long? I don't want to be waiting a year until I do my driving test. I'd like it to be within the next 6-8 months. If someone can clear this up for me I'd most appreciate it!
    Thanks!

You can apply for your 1st learner permit as soon as possible after passing the theory test but you cannot apply for the test unless you have your learner permit. You can apply for your test as soon as you get your learner permit but you will not be able to get a test date until you have completed the 12 EDT lessons. If you get your learner permit now you can sit the test in 6 months time provided that your 1st learner permit is valid for 6 months and you have completed the 12 EDT lessons before sitting a test, though you can apply for the test when ever you are ready but you will not be issued a test date unless you completed the 12 EDT lessons.

It depends how long it take you to complete the 12 EDT Lessons, the soonest you could sit a test is 6 months from the time you are issued your first learner permit. If you pass your theory test, get your 1st learner permit now you can sit the test in 6 months onwards.

When you apply, apply as soon as you are ready but the EDT lessons are usually done every 2 weeks but you can do as many of them close together if you wish but you have to pass each of the 12 modules and have a logbook stamped before getting a test date, you can apply for the test no problem but you will not get a test date and sit the test unless you meet those requirements. You cannot move on in your EDT's unless you pass a module before moving on.

Say you get your EDT's done in a month or two you can apply for your test asap, but not get a test date till a month or two is up if you manage to get all your EDT's done within that time frame depends on how fast a learner you are and how you pick things up. Its different for everyone how they learn.

You can apply for test as soon as you got your Learner permit but, complete your EDT lessons in a month, but you will not get a test date until after that month/EDT's completed, you could be waiting a few months before being issued a test date as you cannot sit the test until the 6 months are up, (its better to space out your EDT's over a few months and then apply for your test, you may not have as long to wait before getting a test date but you still cannot sit the test until the 6 months are up).

Though you might apply you could be waiting ages before getting a test date as it be nearer the time the 6 months be up. You get a test date roughly 4-5 weeks before the test. You'd get your test date before the 6 months are up I'd say but you wouldn't be sitting the test until the 6 months are up.

Waiting times vary from test centre to test centre. Some are 10 weeks, some are more than 10 weeks some are less than 10 weeks so you be waiting a certain amount of time before sitting the test at all. I say you be able to sit the test once the 6 months are up. Practise as much as you can during the 6 months of preparation. You don't know how you will progress and pick things up could take longer. I suggest you wait until you start driving and doing the EDT's before applying for the test but all means if you think you could sit the test within 6 months of driving then by all means give it a go.

If you pass your theory test now and got your learner permit then you could be sitting your test in 6-8 months time but doubt you be waiting a year before sitting the test. All depends on waiting times and how prepared you are for the test will determine when you sit it not just the rules.

Get in touch with the RSA and ask them what are the current waiting times for the test centre you hope to do your test in but waiting times vary from time to time.

    Best of luck with it
