Possibility of classic/vintage insurance on 1979 957cc Fiesta

I've seen a few of similar threads but am looking for some genuine opinions on my situation.

From what I've read, the rules for insuring a classic car aren't set in stone and vary between insurers.
My situation makes things infinitely times more difficult.
    I'm 16, I've recently got ahold of a 1979 Mk1 957cc fiesta. (Love at first sight)
It runs so so and has some surface rust but the sills and under body are immaculate.
Is my first insurance cover on a classic impossible? From ringing around most insurers will not insure a classic to anyone under 25.
As many people my age get their supped up starlets and civics insured under a full licensed driver's policy to gain some experience and a cheaper quote, I'm wondering is this possible on a classic insurance policy?
It's not the end of the world if I have to postpone the maiden voyage of the Fester and purchase myself a little Golf or the like to tide me over until I get insured but I've been so eager to get behind the wheel of an old school Ford (Fiesta/ Escort/ Capri/ Cortina) since young, as pretty much my whole family has a lot of history with them. My father with 4 Fiesta's in his life. My uncle with a Capri and Mk1 escort.:o

Has anyone any advice or opinions for me?
    Thanks.

good for you, post up some pics.(and join www.everyfordireland.com)

The usual way to do this is to put the car in the Ol Mans name (or the Ol Doll) and you as a named driver...will still cost an arm and a leg though. You wont get Classic Insurance as such until you are 25 and even then only as a second car.

You should be able to insure it on a standard motor policy with an insurer that doesn't get a nosebleed with a car being over a certain age. (Axa and Aviva spring to mind), but it'll be a telephone number price.

The named driver option can be bad idea if all material facts are not declared to the insurer. If you are the main driver of the vehicle, then you should be main driver on the policy. If a parent falsely claims they are the main driver and it isn't the case (e.g. the named driver is the main driver), well that's called fronting and is illegal.

On the other hand if a parent says to the insurer they are not the main driver, and the named driver actually is, then all facts are declared correctly. No deception has taken place. Although that might not work out, as they either they may not offer cover, or charge a premium which would be just as large as it would be to have your own policy.

Maybe "black box" insurance will be introduced to the Irish car insurance market soon? That might be the solution to a lower premium.

I've had to park-up my car in the past and get the bus as I had no money as a student to run a car. Later when I was running a motorcycle, I didn't have a car. Couldn't afford both.

My best suggestion would probably be forget about insuring a car here and migrate to a country where the costs are more sensible.

FTFY. That's a very general statement I striked out. You can get classic insurance on for a main classic vehicle, First Ireland - 10k limit - main car. (someone else mentioned Carole Nash, but I've no experience of them to comment). The only problem is, the premium as a main car is very much like a premium on a standard motor policy. However, additional cars don't cost much to put on.

maybe in your early 20's you might get insurance but generally if its over 15 years of age forget it... :(

Thanks for the replies. I think deep down I knew what the answer was going to be but just didn't want to believe it:D
Pic I got from the guy selling.
Is it an unusual color? I've never seen one in this color.

Shame to see it shed'ed for the next 10 years..
But atleast I'll have time to find a bumper:p
Might even be a little rarer and worth some more.
Now to explain to my dad about my 10 year investment.
