Dropping Out

I was in first year of a science course last year. I made a mess of my exams since I just wasn't motivated. I plan on dropping out, working and maybe reapplying to the CAO next year. Do I have to do anything special to drop out or do I just not need to apply for second year? Also, do I have to hand in my student card?

There are probably more questions I have to ask but I think that's it for now.

Cheers. Any idea what form it is? I Googled it and tried searching on the DCU site itself but can't seem to find anything like that. I'd call Registry but I doubt they're open now.

Aye, hold on to the card and continue to avail of your student discounts while you save to come back ;)

I've seen people using their cards for years after they graduated/dropped out.

Please don't just drop out with out a fight. Call student services go talk to them see if they can work something out ( maybe you can sit repeats and switch a course or use credits you've gained against another degree in a similar area. I know you just want to put it behind you but a little bit of work could pay off and save you time in the long run. My thoughts are it surely must be easier to stay in there system than try and get back in. Call someone who might know more about the options available.

Sharpish is right. It may be the last thing you want to do but calling student services would be a good idea.

There may be a situation where you could transfer directly from your current course into another course but you just don't know it now.

For example I didn't get enough points to get into a course I wanted on the Leaving. My Mam got talking to a careers officer and found out that I could do a cert course in an I.T. for two years and then transfer into the second year of the course I originally wanted. I found the stuff I did on the cert course to be pretty interesting and I'm glad now that I did it. Before I transferred into the course I was worried I'd know no one and would find it difficult. When I did transfer though I found I wasn't the only person to do this and there was actually a few of us who went that route!

Thanks for the concern guys but medical reasons are the main reason behind not going on with the course.
This is pretty much the only course I was interested in too so we shall see how it goes from here :(

Hi guys, can anyone tell me about the transfer of programs in DCU? I got my offer for Health and Society (through my FETAC) yesterday just a backup if I dont get nursing in DCU, but I dont think i'll be happy doing Health and Society, Who will I talk too if I wanna transfer to a nursing course within the university? Do I have to reapply through the cao again? or is there a form I need to fill out?

and finally how much in percentage do I have a chance of switching programmes, both course are within the health science building.

I'm fairly sure to transfer in the college you need the entry requirements for the course (ie: Leaving cert points), so I'm not really sure if they'd be able to do it for a FETAC applicant. :/
