    hey everyone,

got a bit of a problem here and could use some advice.

ok so i got accepted into a course in colaiste stiofan naofa in cork, which is basically for a PLC course, but im 18 years old and ive done my leaving cert last year, so i dont qualify for BTA or VTOS, which are both basically back to education allowances and i dont qualify for the grant either.

so ive been on social welfare with basically a year now, and what ive been thinking of doing is just going to cork to do my plc course and just say nothing and continue with my social welfare and just tell them im up looking for work, which is what im doing when i go up there as well as continue my course.

but I just want to know if the idea is plausible and will it work, because my parents cant afford to help me out up there coz theyre an awful lot in debt, If someone can just give me some advice and let me know if it would work or not or if its a good idea, that would be greatly appreciated.

Social Welfare will check with colleges... it might take months but you'll get found out.

If you're on the social a year you qualify for the BTEA don't you? If not write them a letter explaining the situation and see if they will make an exception. Spends some time on it make it look professional and go along to any interview smartly dressed. Looking like you have some cop-on will go a long, long way.

If you do get found out you will have that on your record always putting doubt into the back of people's mind in the welfare office. Worst comes to worst you'll have to suck it up and work mad hours while trying to attend college.

Do you know if you are eligible for a grant? PLC students can also apply for them.
