Has anyone else noticed new grass growing in their aftergrass?

We cut silage about 3 weeks back, meadows were all a bit stronger than normal and the grass had gone to seed in most fields.
Cut it with a conditioner mower, then rowed it up into 30ft swards. All the ground got slurry after cutting.

I think with a combination of strong grass, shaking it, slurry and wet weather a lot of grasseed has germinated. Has anyone else noticed this? I suppose it's one of the few benefits of a bad year.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Are you sure you are seeing new grass and not fresh tillers?

I don't know if it would work with Perennial rye grass but I know of farmers that used to make hay of Italian rye grass during summer. All the tedding will spread the seed and because the Italian rye grass sward is so open the seed will germinate easily to keep it in the sward. Otherwise it would need reseeding every 3 years.

Blue5000, very likely this is grass seed shaken from the seed head. The problem is, the seeds sprouting are the very one you don't need, old meadow grasses, fescues etc. Unless you have gone Organic?
