Contact any local solicitor who does crime, (check golden pages or google) most criminal solicitors who work in criminal area are on the legal aid panel. The solicitor the next time the matter is in court will apply for legal aid from the court.

He hasn't been charged with anything if the file is with the DPP. You hear it every day on the radio - 'the suspect has been released without charge and a file is being prepared for the DPP'.

I think what you meant to say is that he was arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary and may soon be charged or summonsed with that offence. If/when he is charged and he comes before the courts, he can apply for free legal aid.
