There is a guy near me selling his isuzu trooper 3.0L at €900,
its year is 2000 and turbo blew 6 weeks and soon followed by the engine itself.
Its a tidy commerical vehicle and was thinking of buying it as need a 4 x 4 soon and beats buying a discovery or similar vehicle etc

I already know where there is a real good 1997 trooper 3.1 engine going cheap and was thinking of putting it into this 3.0L as they are more reliable so im told.
Anyone ever do this and if so is it easy to do and a good job when completed.

    Ta

the design never really changed so it should be possible provided you have all the other bits (ecu, looms etc...) with the 3.1 engine. But considering the prices of 3.1 troopers anyway, is it really worth it.

i might get the jeep at €600 as he needs it away off his street so could work out ok, good tidy body, would i have to change the gearbox on this too?

Yep. The 3.1 has a push clutch and the 3.1 a pull clutch so the set up on the clutch fork wouldn't suit the other one

It has been done before but it is not an easy job. There is a lot of little differences and wiring to be tidied up after

ok was getting the 3.1 engine at 300 but surprised at the price of a 3.0l engine now as have come down alot. was getting one of these at 450.

Are the 3.0l trooper really that bad of vehicle or is it the way they are maintained,

    To convert it to 3.1

You'll need to swap the engine only.
You fit the adapter plate of the 3.0 engine to the 3.1 so that it mates with the 3.0 gearbox.
The 3.0 DMF must be fitted to the 3.1 engine, you can drill and tap it to make it solid and use the 3.1 clutch disk (with the springs). (this will save you buying an expensive DMF in the future when it goes but it will work without doing this)

Engine mounts and exhaust should line right up.

Wiring is easy enough only thing that wont work is the rev counter.

Shift on the fly will work as normal.

great so not that big of job really (how many hours to complete) so best to go with the 3.1 engine and you would have a jeep every bit as good as a landcruiser for pulling etc at a much cheaper price

How did the engine on the 3.0 blow, was it an injector problem, if it was Isuzu are still standing by these engines and may replace the engine. A mate of mine got the injectors done last year under a recall and his was 98.
    Always worth a chance
