I am trying to find some old fashioned sound deadening, you know the type, bitumen backed with about 20mm of what looks like felt or hard foam.

Anyone know where I can get hold of something like that?

I know someone who used flashband, don't know if this is frowned upon

I asked this recently on motors - flashband seems common
If you do a search on ebay and some digging around there seems to be loads of cheap options out there. dynamat is one I came across.

Nope, its for general sound proofing in a VW. Trying to replace the original materials

Why not use a modern equivalent like dynamat , easier to apply and more efficient , it's hidden anyways so wouldn't affect originality.

Lads, is it okay to use these materials under the bonnet, or would they be susceptible to ungluing in the heat ?

OEMs use a clip-on fibre material rather than glued tar type stuff. Must be a reason for that...

Yes I agree. This stuff is probably as close as I will get and most likely better than the original as well.

    Thanks for that. :)

how difficult would this stuff be to fit to my 08 W211 ?

Is there anyone that could be recommended to do it ?

I am fairly handy with my hands but for some reason am unhappy to try this myself plus I don't really have facilities.
