John Player special liveried manta, info needed ????

Anybody have any pictures or know of a John Player special liveried manta ????

been asked by a person who is in the middle of restoring a much rallied manta .who has found a few john player logos under some (a lot ) fiberglass fillers on the roof of his shell ..

I remember Billy Coleman drove a Rothmans liveried one - never JPS though.

I can remember Austin McHale rallying a black Manta but that was with Shell and DOTI livery I can't ever remember seeing a Manta rallying in JPS Livery in Ireland.

Is it a 400 or a narrow bodied car? Any chance it was LHD at some stage?

I'd say your next port of call OP should be RallyForums.com. There are people there who can give you the history of every rally car in Ireland, going back years!

I'm open to correction but the big sponsors of Manta 400's rallying in Ireland in their prime were Shell (Fisher/Coleman/McHale), DOTI (Coleman/McHale), Pressparts (Bolton), Andrews Heat for Hire (Brookes), AC Delco (McRae), Rothmans (Works Cars). There are probably more but I've no real interest in old Opels....

Edit - Does the front bumper have two depressions that are filled by pieces on the grill? "Proper" Rally 400's had a removable front grill to allow for fitting spotlights and there was two depressions in the front bumper to make them fit.

The JPS Capri was a proper Ford limited edition model rather than a promotional vehicle.

I'd second the suggestion to post the question on the Rally Forum some of the rally mongrels are bound to be able to give chapter and verse on the car, especially if you can divulge some more info like a reg number.
