Social Welfare for days not working

    10-15 hour contract
    Hi all,

I'm currently working under a 10-15 hour contract starting a month or so ago. Most weeks since i've started i've got 2 days (max 7 hours per day) a week, with the exception of one where i got 3 days.

Would I be eligible to social welfare for the other days I'm not working, if so how do I go about it? I was on it before I got this job.

Would this influence my manager giving me more hours a week if he knows that I'm claiming for the other two even though the contract states 10-15hours?
As in, would he only give me the 2 days if I claim jobseekers?

Just don't want to be stuck with minimum hours if i was to do this

    Thanks a lot!

It shouldn't really matter to your manager. If he is only giving you 2 days a week or 3 sometimes you can claim caual JSB provided you don't work more than 3 days. It has recently changed in the sence that it used to go over 6 days but now its over 5 days. eg: You work 1 you get social for 4, work 2 and get social for 3, work 3 get social for 2. Anymore than 3 days worked and you won't get anything. Did you sign off the social or did you tell them you got a part time job?

I signed off as I expected to get more than 4-5 days a week. Maybe if I explain to them tomorrow they'd help me out and sign back on.

What forms etc do I need?

Oh, and will I be able to get back-dated from when I signed off?

    Thanks!

Id say you could get it backdated but im not 100% sure on it as you would need the exact dates you worked etc. Because you signed off it might take up to 3 months or more for them to get it sorted. If you had of known you would only get 2 or 3 days a week you could have just gone onto casual :(. Don't know the form just call them tomorrow and they will give you forms etc.

Yeah, it was foolish of me to sign off in the first place. Although I was with the impression I'd be working a good bit!

3 months to get sorted?! That sounds awful. In 3 months time I could be working full-time!

I'll give them a ring tomorrow and find out a bit more :)
