While watching Cork and Waterford in the hurling today it struck me that the Sunday Game theme music has been running for as long as I can remember.Any other programmes that have had long running theme tunes? The originals now not rerecordings so Late Late Show dosen't count.

Doesn't count. It's been re-recorded at least once. The current theme came in with the new titles a few years ago.

Match of the Day theme. They've been using same version since 1970 afaik.

The Sunday Game doesn't even count. When "The Sunday Game Live" banner was introduced in the mid-1990s, they introduced a re-arrangement of the theme (this is the look which was mainly gold and had a big version of the old GAA triangular corporate logo on it, and the graphics were 1990s-BBC Sport style italics). They reverted back to the original (Jagerlatin, by James Last) after two seasons or thereabouts, but that was only a taster of what was yet to come.

In 2004 they completely dropped the original theme and replaced it with "ominous" music which was in vogue in RTÉ Sport at the the time. That lasted until 2006. Then they replaced it in 2007 with a happier theme that still wasn't Jagerlatin, that only lasted one season. Then in 2008 they finally accepted what every GAA fan had been shouting at them for four years - that they wanted the original theme back. However what they gave us is still a re-arrangement of the original Jagerlatin - its a slower tempo and has people "na-na-na"-ing along to it, which wasn't in the original.

Sometime in the 80s/90s, the Beeb re-arranged the theme music. There was an outcry from the fans, so they reverted to the classic version the following season.

That's right. They changed it in the early 80's. And it was horrible.
We hated it. And after a massive public outcry. They changed it back.
We were absolutely delighted when Jimmy Hill made the announcement
