Is it possible to get travel insurance after you have left Ireland?

    Hi all

I've been travelling around the world for the past 13 months.

My backpacker insurance (12 months) has expired and they won't renew it as I am not currently in Ireland.

I plan to continue travelling for the next 6 months.

Do any of you know who will give me backpacker insurance for the next 6 months? I've looked at a few insurers online and they all say things like "This policy is only available to you if you are permanently resident in Ireland and have been for the past six months" which basically means I do not qualify for insurance.

Do any of you know what I can do?

    Thanks

Yes, but you pay a premium for not being in Ireland unfortunately . World nomads do why you're looking for. They're not the cheapest (at all at all) but they're the only ones I've found who will let you start your policy when you're abroad.

    Thanks.

Yeah I looked at World Nomads but they are about 10 times more expensive than an insurer in Ireland. Ouch!

OK it turns out you can extend your insurance before it expires. Alas mine has already expired so I am out of luck.

    hi

can you tell me which insuruer you used. (I'm going travelling myself and want to know which one will let me extend if I decide to stay beyond a year).

    Many thanks

It's called something like backpackerinsurance.ie (can't remember the exact name, but it's something very similar to that).

I used multitrip.com and I got the backpackers insurance. I'll need to extend it at the end of February and I emailed them to ask about it. I can do it, but I can't apply until the final month of the policy, and it has to pass a committee - I think if I've made any claims I can't extend it. Apart from that, seems pretty straight forward just wish I could sort it out sooner :)
