Well done to Tomas O'Se who became the record championship appearance holder with 82 appearances.

Also well done to Colm Cooper who is now Kerrys all time leading championship scorer.

    Henry shefflin .

Shefflin holds a host of hurling records, including that of being one of the most decorated players in Gaelic games history. In a senior inter-county career that has lasted since 1999 he has won eight All-Ireland titles,[4] twelve Leinster titles and five National Hurling League titles. Shefflin is also an All-Ireland-winner with his club and has also captured three Railway Cup titles with Leinster.

Kerry's meeting with Donegal next Sunday sets another record in that:

    a) it is Kerry's first ever meeting against Donegal in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship.

    b) Kerry will now have met every single county in Ireland in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championshi with the exception of Kilkenny who's County Board is too selfish to even bother encourage the sport in the county.

Kerry has defeated every single county in Ireland that they have played to date with the exception of Down who have never lost to Kerry in the Championship.

Henry Shefflin's record above may look impressive but in reality it counts for nothing as Hurling is a minority sport played in a few counties. Kilkenny Co. Board does nothing for football in their county and if Kerry took the same selfish arrogant approach to Gaelic Games that Kilkenny does to Hurling then I am sure that Kerry would have even greater dominance in Gaelic Football than they already have achieved.

North Kerry and South East Kerry are Hurling strong holds and have produced some nice Hurlers over the years. Kilgarvan won Kerry's first ever Club Championship game a few years back and became the first Kerry team to reach a Munster Final in 2008 and Ballyduff also went to the Munster Club Hurling Final also last year so Hurling is played in Kerry and whilst it is surrounded by Hurling titans there is no reason why Kilkenny GAA couldn't take a similar approach and compete in Leinster and give the likes of Carlow, Louth and Longford a run for their money.

    QUOTE]

    Utter Bollox.

It means nothing to the other 19 counties in Ireland who do not compete in Hurling and where Hurling is a minority sport. Gaelic Football is Ireland's most popular sport and the one which attracts the biggest attendances each year. Hurling is in steady decline and Kilkenny's dominance of the game has only led to hasten its decline. Young lads will play soccer and rugby before they'd catch a Hurley, they have no interest in taking part in a two horse race. In All Ireland Quarter Finals of Football this year you have 6 of the 8 teams with a strong enough chance of winning the All-Ireland wheras in Hurling you have three, Kilkenny, Tipperary and Galway. Cork's remergence in Hurling is beginning but I am doubtful if they will emerge this year just yet.

One horse winning a two horse race year in year out is not real competition it is a monopoly on sport really and that is what is killing the sport.

I thought the Gooch had become the all time highest scorer for all counties?

    Double standard here no ?

You call Kilkenny "selfish" because hurling is the dominant sport there and yet casually excuse 19 other counties for not promoting the game there.

Go troll someplace else because its obvious you haven't got a bulls notion about what you're talking about here.

You thought right. He overtook his fellow county man Mikey Sheehy's all time championship scoring record.

And timed to perfection for Mr Brolly:)

the reason why Hurling isnt played as much as football is because its a harder sport to play imo

Also the promotion of hurling in Dublin goes to show that Hurling is an attractive option when it gets real backing. The same can be said for Gaelic Football.

Shefflin is an astonishing athlete and anyone who denies that is simply taking nonsense.

Three times as many skills in hurling over football

Has to be said that they have done some job in Dublin with the hurling, and their underage camogie is serious as well. 50 or 60 development coaches in the schools promoting our national games.

Well done to Tomas O Se, quiet fella that gets on with the business - sometimes a bit too well from a Cork point of view :D:p

John Mullane is now the 2nd highest scorer from PLAY of all time in the Championship, he needs just 2 more points from play to become the highest scorer of all time.....the leading scorer had a career lasting 5 years longer than John's career. Now that is some acheivement whether you like him or not. Aboy Mullane.

Isnt Shefflin #1 from play? He's only been around 2 yrs longer than Mullane.

This excludes goals, shefflin has more goals but Mullane has 134 points from play and Eddie keher has 135. That's an unbelievable achievement for Mull.

Shefflins only 6 points behind him, could make to 136 first all going well :-)

Very impressive stats for both men whatever way you look at it, wouldnt have guessed Mullane was anywhere near that high. There really has been some great forwards around this past decade

    You wouldn't have guessed?

Mullane has been the best scorer from play for the last 5 or so years, by a distance. He's a class act.

excludes goals? Its a great achievemnet from Mullane, but there is no need to be editing stats just to try show he is the top scorer. To have him in the same breath as multiple AI winners is enough of credit for him, just a shame he couldnt have a winners medal himself to cap it off.

Yeah, would be a fantastic thing to have for the likes of Mullane, Ken McGrath and the one and only Tony Browne - sport can be cruel at times

Mullane has been so consistent over the last number of years in scoring, not surprised he is that high.
