Sound Insulation - Retrofitting between timber floors

    We have a split level house;

    The sitting room is above the bedrooms, the floors are timber, and the noise levels in the bedrooms from people walking and talking upstairs is unbearable.

    Has anyone had any experience of insulating existing floors and can offer any advice on its effectiveness, cost, and recommended materials/installers?

    Have a look at something like this. This is a system I use quite a lot.

    To properly insulate a floor you need to reduce both impact and airborne sound. Insulating between the floor joists will only help reduce airborne sound - to be effective, in addition, you need to isolate the floorboards from the floor joists to reduce both types of sound.

    Hi Docarch,

    I am interested in this solution as i have the same problem in my house, the link you posted is very interesting do you know if there are any contractors in Ireland installing this product. Also would you know if it is expensive to have fitted i have 2 bedrooms ( 4.5 x 3 metre and 2.5 x 2 metre )
