Is RTE 2 broadcast in digital SD as well as HD?

I have my WinTV 7.0 on my PC, a digital hauppauge TV tuner 110HVR and an aerial on the roof pulling a reasonable enough digital signal from Kippure..

But I find that when I change to the RTE TWO HD, the processor usage doubles. I'm only watching on a 19 inch screen so I cant really see the extra definition in HD, so I'm wondering is there any way that I can just get it in SD..

No, HD only on Saorview or Saorsat.

Screen size don't matter, HD on a 19" is the same as HD on a 47"

Well, a lot of the content is upscalled SD, but it's an HD transmission. As well soon be TG4 and next year TV3, eventually RTE1.

There is no wasteful simulcast like on Sky, UPC, Freesat or Freeview. Actually some PCs use x6 more CPU to do HD.

I dont know why but it was something I never even took in to account.. I think Ive managed to reduce the processor time by tweaking the software itself.. but it is still noticeable that there is a factor of 2 or so of a change in processor time when I switch from digital SD to digital HD.. ah, I'll work away with it..

Consider using CoreAVC. It will reduce the load by about 25%.

What video card do you have? The following cards have onboard H.264 acceleration which should significantly reduce CPU usage if set up correctly:

    NVIDIA: GeForce 8 or higher
ATI/AMD: Radeon HD 2000 series or higher
Intel: "HD Graphics" in 1st gen Core i3/i5, or 2nd/3rd gen i3/i5/i7

    I have a Radeon X1450 in the PC :(

I have been trying to take down other H264 decoders, but the only one that seems to work is the DivX decoder.. None seemed to come with it..

Let me try that CoreAVC. :)

CoreAVC is worth the few quid.

You reckon? I was actually thinking about buying it, but my WinTV software doesnt seem to recognise a lot of the other decoders I've downloaded, and I'm worried that if I buy the CoreAVC the same will happen.

It sees MainConcept (which doesnt work) and DivX (which does work but puts the processor to 90% on HD) .. But I've installed a number of freeware H264 codecs, and WinTV cant see any of them.. I have even just uninstalled / reinstalled to see if the codecs had to be preinstalled, but still it cant see them.

There is no CoreAVC version so that I could test whether WinTV sees it or not.
