    Can anyone put a figure on how much better the core i7 is compared with the core i5 ?

    That entirely depends on the processor generation and model (and overclocking capability). There are plenty CPU benchmarking databases available where you can compare CPUs.

    you can't really put a figure on it but an i7 has hyper-threading in general that's all they have going over i5 apart from a small clock speed increase but you can gain this by overclocking an i5 such as 3750k

    Huh there's no simple answer but roughly say i5 for home use and i7 for studio/multimedia production

    Compare models here then compare prices, afaik i5 is still better bang for a buck

    Its like comparing a fork and a spoon, it depends what you are eating.

    Ditto it depends what you are going to be doing with the computer.
