Just wondering when is the best time of year to buy a new PC or Laptop ?

I bought a laptop a few years ago, after I bought it they were doing the same laptop a week later with double the memory for the same price.

I'd imagine christmas is a bad time to buy a new PC or Laptop as you will get ripped off big time.

Apart from christmas are their any other times in the year when it is a good or a bad time to buy ?

There aren't really better or worse times to buy a computer.

Most manufacturers usually present their new range at the big trade shows (CES, CeBit or CompuTex) and when the new models hit the shelves you may get good bargains on older models in stock clearance sales.

No real good time or bad time to buy a pc just make sure the hardware is not outdated. Ever thought of a custom build?

Next month will be a good time with alot of shops doing a back to school / college promotion which you'll see laptops being sold along with anti-virus and printers for good prices.

But, it always depends on what type of laptop you're looking for and what you're going doing with it.

According to Moores Law there is never a "good time" to buy a computer. If you get one now or in the near future just make sure it has the latest generation of CPU, currently Intel Ivybridge or AMD A series.

Been in retail 18 months, long enough for a complete Moores cycle. Can honestly say theres no good time for a new computer; the newest tech is always at a certain point of inflation, and it goes down from there. Take for example on the market you have 3rd gen i7s, all the way scaling down (including AMD of course but for claritys sake) to 2nd gen i3s, (1st gen i3s should be all but sold now), low end B930 and G930 processors, Atoms Celerons and AMD E-series processors. Usually alongside those mid ranges you'll find older gear thats just going clearance and sometimes (rarely) you'll find a good deal. Right now I have a sick deal on clearance ASUS desktops that are $300 cheaper than the 2012 model. The difference? A little less hard drive space I think, and the exclusion of a built-in wifi adapter. Otherwise it's the same 2nd gen i7 with 8gb. Those kind of deals disappear quickly and change week to week depending on your retailer.

If you are going to the retailer though the most annoying question to ask is "whats your best cheapest laptop"... Instead try "Which models are At Risk/End of Life?", these are the laptops that are usually the better deal, if you don't mind not having the newest nicest thing (think a DV6-6C35DX vs an M6-1035DX; fairly similar laptops but ones on clearance now and the other is spanking new with a couple added niceties).

I dont have the space for a desktop and I will be moving house over the course of the year so it is not an option.

Would you not agree that Christmas is the time people get ripped off and january is the time people are more likely to get a good deal ?
