When photographing the EK 77W at DUB recently I noticed the 'ATR 72' painted at the stand.
Were/Are there plans for Aer Lingus Regional to use T2?

Also, it seems that the A319 marking was added later as it is squashed in and seems more recently painted, a sign of EI A319s for DUB?

    Hi there,
Some of the T2 stands are essentially marked for the most common user aircraft's size, such as Airbuses, Boeings big and small, some of the MD-80/88/90 and the B717 series, the Avro RJ/146s and the most common turbo, the ATR. There are stands that are marked just as "freighter" and there's even a stand marked with "B727-100". I'd pay money to see one of them arrive;)

Aer Lingus A319's coming online and at one stage there was talk of EI regional (ATR's) departing from T2. Hence the markings.

They wouldn't, just the same stand/lead in line but different hammerheads

    Hi there,
Because ATRs don't need airbridges and occupy a smaller footprint than an Airbus or Boeing, there is no point in using a T2 stand unless you have to. Smaller turbos are actually best served by using self-manouvering stands but the DAA, in their wisdom, did away with them a few years ago.

From a practical point of view I am not sure if there is any space left in T2 for regional in anycase. Rumours are abound that Emirates may increase to twice daily and we don't know what the tie in with EY will bring in terms of increased frequencies heading East or West. As anyone who arrives at night or departs early knows we pretty much have taken over Pier B again except for the odd lufty and BA/BMI late arrivals/night stoppers.

There was plans for a second pier to the east of t2, running towards the cargo area. The Ryanair hanger would have to be demolished etc
Don't know what happened this plan but in my opinion there is too much aircraft in t2. Kinda crazy pier b is used as an over flow, the aer Linus regional flights should be at t2 or that pier that was never built. Would suit the atr operations well. T2 has too many carriers, was it not ment to be for ei and there partners? Like no AA, Us air, delta etc

No it was designed for us by Aer Lingus all airlines using the US customs and immigration facilities.

Incorrect Stevopipe, there are still self manoeuvring stands in DUB used everyday. About 5 of them off the top of my head.

I thought the stands to the north side of the A rotunda were self-maneuvering? I've never been more than slightly awake when using them for a horrible o'clock trip to Donegal or similar so I could be wrong.

There are 5 self manoeuvring stand in DUB.

    7S & 8S on the A pier (Now the 200's)
83S, 86S & 88S on remote stands at back of D pier (Now the 100's)

All in operation daily by EI regional ATR's, Loganair Saab's and other small prop aircraft.

    Hi there
Are they genuinely self-manouvering or are they still required to push back with a towbar? We used to do it with the Fokkers and 146s and it saves a lot of time......The problem with T2, also, is that it's a long taxi to the threshold of 10 and being a pier, you have the inherent difficulty of proximity to other piers. It can be very crowded when a line of 330s is in and the 30s are also occupied.

Yes completely SM stands. No pushback required.

Well there you go. When the DAA stopped the use of SM stands, we complained, as did other airlines with similar aircraft but to no avail. Good old U-turns.Must be a politician or two on the board of the DAA.
