Well....Not all Dreamboxes are being used illegally...

Plenty people out there use them for the fta's..

Don't think We can say much more on this matter to be honest,as Dreambox threads are usually closed fairly quick.

Dreambox are just another regular FTA Satellite Receiver, they're no different to the Ariva 120 Combo or other similar FTA boxes. There's no reason they shouldn't be sold over the counter!

Cars should be banned as they might aid in the escape of bank robbers. It is the same logic.

You can also by a dvd burner, car capable of breaking the speed-limit and mp3 player you could put downloaded much on it.

Just because something can be used for something illegal doesn't mean it will be. I have had a dreambox 500s for 6 years now , and have just used it for FTA and with a valid sky subscription.

I use my Dreambox 7020 as a FTS receiver in the kitchen, why shouldn't they be sold over the counter?

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

They can even be used legally for legal pay TV using a legal paid for card from various European mainland services.

It's breaking a civil contract (Legal T&C) to use a Sky card in one.

While a Dreambox is perfectly legal to sell and use, there are uses that break Irish Criminal law, more subtle than simply throwing one at someone.

If someone is selling one prepared for getting a Pay TV service without proper payment, or to enable others to get Pay TV without proper payment then they are breaking criminal and civil laws.

There is no legal use for a DVB-c Dreambox in Ireland. Retail of a DVB-c box in Ireland that actually works is very likely illegal.

What advantages are there in receiving your legal sky subscription through a dreambox?

For me it's so I can have sky + foreign fta on the same box. I have two dishes on a switch, which wouldn't work with a sky box.

A lot of folk use broadband to 'steal' music and films. But are we going to ban broadband?

Personalising the EPG order is a nice function.

    +1
Great to customise the epg to your own tastes .
You can delete all the crappy channels and put the channels in a proper order, put the +1 channels after the standard channel instead of 30 places down the epg.

Streaming the tv to laptops around the house and garden is a great feature for me.

I really like the idea of customising the epg for sky channels. There seem to be many dreambox models available. Which one (with a built-in HD) would you recommend for legal use with my sky card.

Sorry for stepping in, nothing at all, all dreambox type devices have a web front end that allows you stream to VLC player, I've a VU+ Ultimo, it has 2 Satellite tuner and 1 terrestrial tuner, this allows me to stream to my laptop, phone and herself's iPad while watching/recording something else.

My main reason for getting the unit was my TV cabinet was getting too full, I had 3 consoles, DVD player, media player and sky box, I managed to combine the sky box and media player in 1 by using the Ultimo, also got rid of the DVD player.
