Yes, if your clutch is gone you will need to replace the dual mass flywheel and a 3-part clutch kit (pressure plate, disc, slave cylinder). I'd expect the parts to cost around 550 from a motor factors (it's a while since we did one so the price might have changed). Paid 725 for parts recently for a 08 new shape 6-speed. Also the mechanic doing the work may not pass on the parts discount to you so might be a bit more. I'd estimate 250 labour. Maybe 800-1000 total.

I can't remember if the solid flywheel conversion is a good job on these but might be worth considering (it works for some car models, not for others). Some of the others on here (eg George) might be able to advise.

Valid point. Get their mileage rate and work it out through Google maps when they're "quoting" you. Alternatively, shop around for the tow to the repairers. The garage doing the job may well tow it for you.

Is it 5 speed or 6 speed?

Do the starter while you are at it, and get all the parts from the one brand, ie clutch, flywheel etc, don't be pursuaded to mix components. Also ensure the mechanic cleans out the bellhousing properly as the debris from the clutch failure will linger and kill the new one. If you cheap out on doing the job properly, you will join the long list of people who complain that their replacement flywheel etc lasted even less time than the original. By "do the starter", I mean fit a new or recon one, regardless of the outward appearance of your own one. :) Tis all pricey, but half-doing ends up being even pricier as you get the fun of doing it all again in 30-50k km or even less.

Is it 5 speed or 6 speed?

OP. Answer the man. He is trying to save you quite a bit of money.

    The correct answer is 5-speed....

Did you get any quotes yet? Unfortunately the 6 speed costs more in labour than the 5 speed.
