Paying a French Speeding Fine - hire car

I have just received notice of a speeding fine received while driving a hire car in France, about 30 minutes after I arrived!

The hire car company are looking for an admin fee of €20 - fair enough, but they seem to expect me to pay at their headoffice, no mention of taking it off my credit card.

The fine arrived today, dated 18/6, with an event date of 11/6. Seems to be €45 if I pay within 30 days of 18/6 (??) with other references to €68 and €180 if not paid within 45 days

My french is not great, but even I can see there is no information on how to pay - it just says "par carte bancaire sur internet..", but there is no reference to a website apart from www.interieur.gouv.fr

I feel inclined to just ignore this, but am nervous about implications of driving in France again.

    Any advice?

I'd pay it. Life's too short to be bringing sh1t down on yourself for a couple of quid.

Was it the camera just off the Calais port exit I wonder? That area is like a disco during night..:D

OP, this might be what you are looking for:

I flew into Tours in the Loire Valley and it was somewhere between there and Loches

The letter was only postmarked 25/7

I'm annoyed I have to pay the €68 fine - It'll be €180 if I leave it till after 2/8!

If I had got the details within 15 days, it would have been €45

And for the curious, I was doing 77Kph in a 70Kph zone

Thanks Darwin, that looks like the right site all right, but none of the numbers on the sheet I received work - its looking for an 18-digit number and all I have is a notice of contravention number which is 10 digits

Jeez, EU cross information seems to caught up, about three years ago I was speeding all across Europe`s motorways in an Irish and a Hungarian reg car. Was photographed on at least four occasions but never received a fine. Ever...

It's a hire car, not private.

...In that case I am glad EU cross communication is on 16th century level. :D

You have 45 days to pay from the date of issue of the notice. Extended to 60 days if you pay online.
Now 7km/h over is ridiculous. Most car speedos in the market are not 100% accurate and don't have digital readings.
Even radars themselves are not 100% accurate.
    That is just extortion.

All car speedos overread, at an indicated 70km/h you may be doing less but you will not be doing more. At a real 77km/h most cars will be showing 80-85 on the clock.

Pity you weren't driving an irish reg car. They can't trace them so you never have to pay the fine. Ive seen multiple camera flashes at me while being in an irish car in france over the years and we never had to pay any fines.

I was also flashed once or twice in Germany in Irish registered car and never received fine...

But saying that they can't trace Irish registered car is bit out of true, as if they wanted, I'm sure they could.

They could but it is way too much effort.

They could but it is way too much effort.

Friend of mine got flashed for speeding in Austria in Polish registered car, and about 1 month later, he got a fine in his mailbox in Poland.
