    Hi all,
Im moving to galway city in a few weeks and was wondering if people could recommend grass/trail running areas around the city.
I'm moving to salthill but am willing to run to areas to give the legs a bit of a break.
    Thanks

Not a huge amount of decent grass only circuits around , nothing of scale of the Phoenix park , but..

You could use Dangan ( Regional sports Centre, NUI Grounds , open to all )

    https://maps.google.ie/maps?q=Dangan+Heights,+Galway&hl=en&sll=53.3834,-8.21775&sspn=11.270611,28.54248&oq=DANG&t=h&hnear=Dangan+Heights,+Galway,+County+Galway&z=16

Its A mix of grass and trails, plenty of runners, and a track.. and trails down river to NUI Galway, beware the new buildings springing up everywhere...2 miles odd loop, 4 incl using the river trail.

Also Renmore ( eastside, c 1 mile lap )> Racecourse , but not next week, 1.5 miles, grass, can be monotonous, Mervue/Castlepark pitches eastside. Cappagh Park out west, beware the dogs...

    Grounds of Merlin Park

Lots and lots of open space for you

A bit off the main road there are paths through the woods and you can head up to Mervue Castle

Just try out the area and you'll figure out some good loops with some hills

Or just head up to Ballybrit
I'm reliably informed a lap is 1 and 1/4 miles, since you are on the outside it's probably a bit longer

The final hill is a killer!

Lots of room up there to park or you can lock a bike if you cycle

Loads of runners up there. The very odd day it'll be closed obviously if a race meeting is on but it's open all the rest of the year
