I use Lenova laptops day-in-day-out and they are, in my mind, the best built laptops on the market - far trumpting the more expensive Sony VAIO's IMO.

But hey.. I'm not here to change anyone's mind!

What model are you using Basq ?

You got there very nice and mobile device Basq.

I have used Lenovo's for the last 15 years (back in the days when they were still IBMs) and the T-series machines can't be faulted. In a previous life I even used to work there supporting them.

If I didn't have a DELL Vostro 3350 already at home, I'd be looking at a nice X220 upwards laptop/tablet. Only thing that lets them down is the spec - no HDMI, no USB 3 as standard.

(Typed from a X200 incidentally that I'm very fond of despite newer models being available within arms reach) :p

Have to agree with basq, i have a z580 and have to deal with thinkpad's all day and they're for me the best built most reliable at the moment.

@basq, what is the keyboard like on yours? If it is the uk layout, are all the keys in the right place? Mainly concerned about a full size enter key and the \ being in the right place.

Are there any good Lenova laptops for under €400? Heard they're extremely reliable but can't find one on the actual Lenova site in that price range!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,692 ✭✭✭Jarren

It will be very hard to find any laptop under 400 Euros with good specs.

and there is a dealbuzz http://www.dealbuzz.ie/view-deal.php?vxaf-ctr=372042&vxaf-ref=Q7SSVR&referer=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.mydealpage.ie%252F&deal_id=250&src=vendexo

I got a Lenovo X121e thinkpad for 397 (with a few upgrades) 6 months ago. I think there was a bargain alert thread on it.

    Works great.

i5-3210M is a bit faster than i3-2370M but why claiming that "there is no comparison" when the difference is 20%?

they are completely different laptops - one is smaller, with wwan, anti glare screen for people on the move; other one is big, bit faster with reflective screen - good if you not going to move it from your desk too often

    Price wise,specs are crap

You want to get yourself a 14 inch screen laptop with much better specs?

Go to Dell.ie ,they have better specced lappys for less money

As for difference in performance , 20% means a lot in terms of multitasking.

I'm not claiming anything as you kindly mentioned, simply stating the fact.

Lenovo are excellent quality laptops but as you can see you pay the price for it, which a lot of people aren't willing to do these days.

Just picked up a Dell Inspiron i3-2350M, 3G ram, 320G HD, 15.4" screen for €407.52 inc vat. Bought through pigsback brings it below the 400 mark. Screen is only the usual craptastic 1366 x 768 but since it is for my parents, it'll do.

What is the deal with dealbuzz? The laptop seems too good to be true?

I went through the purchase as far as entering the coupon code (which appeared to give an additional €116 discount) to see how much it would cost.

Chose the middle laptop from the 3 on the original but upgraded the graphics and harddrive to max available

    Here is what I got:

    ThinkPad T430 - 3 Year Depot Warranty - TopSeller

    Item Price: €1,487.07
    Sale Price: €1,165.88

Intel Core i5-3210M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
    14.0 HD (1366 x 768) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
NVIDIA Optimus Graphics (NVS 5400M, 2GB)
    8 GB DDR3 - 1600MHz (2 DIMM)
    No Fingerprint Reader
500 GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
    DVD Recordable
    6 cell Li-Ion Battery - 70+
    Bluetooth 4.0
    ThinkPad b/g/n
    Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable
    2344: 3 Year Depot

    [BEST10%257] -€116.59
    Estimated total: €1,049.29
    Total savings €437.78

So you are still talking €1k but are going to pay a little more for Lenovos...

Any thoughts on the above or better alternatives for that price?

Pigsback link from https://www.pigsback.com/pages/3/66/349.aspx?pbq=529,529,VOVSE. You probably need to be signed in.

Then clearance deals and the inspiron 15 laptop.

Then this coupon gives an extra 12% off ?G26R9X345VVL?

In this day and age, there is no way I am paying over €1000 for a 14 inch laptop with only a 1366 x 768 res display.

Also have to factor in at least €100 for a 128gb SSD which is an essential upgrade to any laptop or desktop for that matter imo.

Mind you, I am struggling to find my next laptop at the minute... spec wise, the new Asus Zenbox ux32 would seem ideal, but there are loads of reports of heavy backlight bleed etc which is putting me off.

Tough to find one without one or two significant issues at the minute...

for e36 more you can have hi-res display. Bought 5 for my work, basically they buy laptops which should last 3~5 years, with 3 years extended warranty it is possible.

BTW T430 is great in terms of battery life, 7 - 15hrs battery life with 9 cell one!

    Opps didnt notice that.

    14.0 HD+ (1600 x 900) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready - Add €36.90 to my price above.

I still dont see any viable alternative at the moment to the Lenovo
