    Hiya,

As stated in the title looking into how much it would cost to upgrade a 4-5 yr old pc which had some big money spent on it at the time. I'm guessing the case, PSU and dvd writer are worth keeping but not really sure; hence why I'm here :)

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [Yes]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [Hard drive/DVD Drive/Case/PSU/etc.] (If possible state brand and model of the parts to ensure compatibility)

Do you have a storage HDD? I only see the 150GB Raptor.

    Item|Price
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€36.44
    ASRock Z77 Pro3, Sockel 1155, ATX|€90.77
    Intel Core i5-2500K Tray, LGA1155|€182.70
    Thermalright HR-02 Macho|€33.89
    Club 3D Radeon HD 7850 royalQueen, 1GB GDDR5|€197.26
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€560.05

My suggestion if your okay with just 150GB of storage. What resolution are you gaming at btw - this is grand for 1080p but will suck at anything above that.

Ahh b*gger you need windows back in a tick.

Get windows from software4students if you're a student, are a family member of a student, have ever touched or seen a student.
I'd personally hang on and use a Windows 7 trial until Windows 8 lands.

Not as good a CPU but the same mobo so you can always drop in a i5 later. I'd personally up the budget by selling the components you are replacing.Hope ya kept the boxes ... :D

    Cheers for the advice :)

Not too worried about the storage as I've a few hard drives lying around and might even get a SSD for the OS.

Will be connected to a plasma 1080P. Are the current top of the range video cards overkill?

Reckon I'll guess ill get around 100 euro for this lot?

Probably no need to get rid of the Mugen, it's a good cooler.

ah so the cooler isn't restricted to the older CPU sockets? Good to know.

    cheers for the help lads.

Im not really too pushed with overclocking, would that mean I could get a cheaper motherboard?

Looks like that motherboard doesnt have a toslink output either which I definitely need for my DAC.

Actually, scrap the Mugen idea. It's not compatible with 1155, that's the Mugen 3.
