There was a good deal on a Vitus in CRC with Tiagra and a full carbon frame. It was a little bit above 1k though.

i would imagine the cheapest way of doing it would be a new carbon frame from ebay china for around 300 and buying a cheap second hand racer and transfering all the bits.

would i recomend it ? no

plenty good bikes out the for under 1000. you could find a second hand carbon bike but would want to give it a good inspection first

Unless you want carbon for research purposes, you will find that good aluminum frames at that price point will be better than cheap carbon ones.

But if you really mush have one, I'd look at the Vitus on special offer from Chainreactioncycles at the moment - €1025: link

A little over budget @€;1250 , this Carrera Virago from Halfords has a better spec and has had good reviews: link

An aluminum frame at the 1k price point would usually be a very high end aluminum frame, very light, well machined, super responsive and very stiff. Also with a carbon fork.

A carbon frame at the 1k price point is often spongy, not stiff, non responsive and not overly pleasant to ride.

For carbon I'd throw another couple of hundred at it and look at Ribble or Planet X. That should be your entry into the carbon world.

WRT the 'ebay' carbon frames and their quality.
I have had 2 of them (still using the second one sold the 1st one due tofinacial constraints) and on the swords chaos spin on Sat morns I am usually up there contesting the sprint at the end and find that it does respond and does not feel like a bowl of noodles ( I have found that its actually the crankset is where I am losing stiffness ,FD rubbing under load
As anyone who knows me will tell you that I am no 65kg climber and the frame hasnt collapsed and I have put it thru hell on all sorts of road surfaces.
