Moving a Stairs Cost/Feasibility

The house is your standard 3-bed semi, walk in front door and stairs is in the hall. 3 rooms off it, sitting, dining, kitchen. upstairs is 3 beds and bathroom.

my issue is that the hallway and landing areas are quite large and if the stairs was gone, between upstairs and downstairs you would have 2 extra rooms.

what is the cost/hassle/feasibility of doing this or has anyone done this.

the reason i ask is because i will be doing a side-extension, and if i could put the new stairs in the extension i could reduce the size of the extension needed and make better use of the houses space/aspect/layout. but if it were to greatly add to the cost then a bigger extension it is!

anyone ever done something similar. Thanks

It's gonna depend on your house ect..
I was going to reverse the staircase in my cottage, to a new landing in a 2 story extension, made better use of space.. Builder had no prob, didn't require much work because it used the same stairwell and the roof at the back of the house was being raised anyway... Didn't go ahead cos went for a single story extension instead...
