Whats the best system to get a load of free channels? I have a house converted to a gym and in my main house I have sky with all the sports. SO all I want in the gym is as many channels as I can without having to pay a bill for them. The gym is seperate to the house so running leads wouldnt be an option really but id like to hear some suggestions..

    http://www.ebay.ie/itm/Ferguson-Ariva-250-HD-Combo-Freesat-Saorview-Receiver-LATEST-MODEL-FULL-HD-/261053110727

This will give the saorview channels and the free to air channels. Requires an aerial and sat. Dish, but no other ongoing charges. Might be a bit short on sport channels though.

Motorised satellite system would be the best fit there; ask in the satellite or foreign satellite forum.

A motorised system would only be useful if you are looking for foreign language stations and so need to swing around for different satellite positions.

The main english speaking stations (BBC, ITV, C4,etc) are free to air on 28.2e (same satellite as Sky serevices).

Keep it simple (and cheap) - fixed dish at position 28. 2east for the satellite services and Saorview box (or approved TV) and antenna for Irish stations (RTE1, RTE1+1, RTE2 TV3, 3e,TG4, RTE News Now) Note - The Irish sations are not available free on satellite.

Hello Ger Ror, just a slight correction in that the irish channels are free on satellite just not the sky satellite, but a newly launched one last year by eutelsat at 9 degrees east. Unfortunately TV3 and 3e are not included, just RTE/TG4 channels.

Correct indeed Mr Black. Saorsat is available free on 9e.

It didn't spring to my mind when answering the question for the OP since he is looking for an easy option and I was only thinking of standard installations for combined multi channel Irish & UK reception.

For the OP - The Saorsat service is a last resort option and not really worth considering unless the terrestrial (Aerial) option is ruled out. In the vast majority of cases for anyone trying to get to grips with ASO options, Saorsat is an additional confusion.

But I stand corrected - Irish Channels are indeed available free to air on Satellite (Saorsat), however the option only applies in very specific circumstances and requires a specific installation that is more difficult to integrate with the other satellite services on 28.2e.

We know. You've told us in at least three threads.
