Hi, I'm sure it's a quick fix but I'm stuck! I've a golf mark 4 and after parking and locking the car I realised the wheels were pointing out a bit much so I unlocked it (key fob) and opened the door and tried to steer towards the curb without putting the key in the ignition and the steering wheel blocked. Now the ignition is blocked and the car won't start! I guess I stupidly engaged the immobiliser...how do I unlock it? I've tried locking and unlocking it a few times to no avail...

When you say the ignition is blocked do you mean you can't turn the key?

You sure that's not just the steering lock?

Wiggle the steering wheel when you try to turn the key..

Was gonna suggest the same, turn the wheel anti clockwise then sharp clockwise and see if that works?

No the wheel is completely locked in position from both sides and the key won't turn in the ignition at all...I just leant into the car and turned the wheel and it locked!

Get somsone to give it a small push do the above and press the clutch down abit and the wheel should unlock

Put the key in ignition again and turn steering to get the pressure off the lock, then try turning the key while you have it in this position.

Cool, thanks. Will try that in the morning

Thanks lads, turning the key left and moving the wheel from side to side worked. I just didn't want to put pressure on the ignition when I wasn't sure. It's my first car and I've only had it a week!

Glad you are sorted OP...it's a learning curve, stick with the Forum, you'll learn a lot in here (and some of it may be true :-)

Ah fair enough so. But jaysus, did you never play with your dad's car, or someone else's car? :)

In fairness, the OP is hardly the first person to get stuck on that one and they certainly won't be the last. It's one of those things that seems obvious, once you know how.

It happened to me in my younger days. Not afraid to admit that, people need to learn at some stage :)

Give the op a break, we were all there at some stage :)

Not the first, won't be the last... Still funny as hell though :p

Well at least I didn't break the key in the ignition trying to sort it! And no, my dad never let me play with his car...anyway, problem solved! Thanks
