I have heard of it being done as a prank. It would be pretty easy to verify in fairness though.

I would be inclined to take it as serious. Benefit of doubt and all that.

"Good afternoon is this [x], Hi [x] this is [y] from Dublin Wellwoman centre. As part of confidential service we provide, we inform past sexual partners of possible infections. Unforunately, you were listed as a previous sexual partner of a patient here. This information is, of course, held in the strictest confidence. It is advisible that you book an appointment with either your G.P or with us.

I know this is alot to take in but sexual health is a very important matter. Would you like to book an appointment?"

Firstly This is a situation where you would immediate call them back using a number from a public course. And a STI isn't always the end of the world anyway. Most people get them at some stages.

They do take a sexual history when testing patients. It may be true. What harm is it to go get checked though, you never know what you might have, some STIs don't have any symptoms. I'd say go and get yourself checked.

They make take sexual history but they do not as far as I know take names and numbers!

Patient doctor confidentiality might come into play at some stage too:rolleyes:

What I will agree is that your mate(you) should get checked regularly if you are sleeoing with different partners.

They take previous partners contact details and contact them saying they need to attend a clinic if an STI is found, not specifying for what. If you don't want to contact them yourself they do it for you. They never say who was the original infected patient which covers confidentiality.

    Seriously???????

I have never been asked for any names or numbers, just how many partners.
If it turned out I did have an sti how would they ring any of my former partners?
I also would have thought that it doesnt matter if they dont say who gave them the info, that it would still be confidential!
If it is true tho I do think it is a good idea to let people know so they can get checked out themselves.

They do for all STIs. You have a legal obligation as far as I know to contact people from the last six months. They check that you have done so by contacting the people and asking them if they have been checked and treated as they have been exposed.

Really the only way to make sure people do the right and moral thing

Actually there isn't and it isn't. Take the STI genital warts for example - HPV virus. More than half of the population have the, There is no referral, no legal obligation for referral.
